I got this email earlier this morning. Pretty cool tip. Plan on converting all my third party libs to this method.

Did anyone get an offer to beta test a universal shell from NI? Maybe this is what you guys are talking about. Sorry I can't watch the video.

I think the Universal Shell is Komplete Kontrol...which runs everything...
but I could be mistaken...

They didn't call it that. I already have that but I don't have it tied to their controller. You could be right...not sure. This was some kind of a beta thing.

One big stumbling block to this... If, like I do, you have a ton of third party libraries...i.e.many, many gigs worth...you need to make sure you have room on the drive that contains your Kontakt Factory Library to hold all these transferred libraries. Elsewise figure out how to just put the instrument folders from those libraries into the Kontakt Factory Library folder and point them to their samples folders on the drive where they now reside. Which I don't have a clue how to do. So, for me, this ain't worth it. Unless somebody can hip me to how I'd do it.

Pretty cool that you can load these in there but I still absolutely hate the libraries tab. It was fine back in the day when people didn't have many libraries but now that many of us own several hundred, it's hard to organize and browse with it. I'm really hoping K6 has a completely revamped organization menu.

Turns out there might be a way to do this, albiet a very tedious way. But once it's done, if it works, it's done. You should be able to just move the instruments folder of a third party library to you Kontakt Factory Library folder but you will get a "cannot find samples" error dialog when trying to load it via the Libraries tab in Kontakt. Then you can just point Kontakt to the drive/folder where that libraries samples are and, hopefully, be good to go. For me this means doing this about 25 times. Plus, as some have alluded above, the Libraries tab in Kontakt is no great browser anyway. We'll see.

Nice thing about this approach - It looks like you can create as many subfolders/categories as you want under the Factory library, so lots of options for keeping things organized - at least with the 3rd-party libraries that don't show up in the browser. I was using the "Quick" menu option for these libraries, but I already like adding them as categories under the factory library a LOT better - Time to move the Factory Library back to the top of the browser tab!

I thought an easy solution might be to use folder shortcuts, so I gave it a try. Nope. Shortcuts won't show. Back to the drawing board.

I'm thinking I might do this for ALL my Kontakt libraries including ones that use the Library Tab already. That should at least help keep things cleaner. My question is: will NI's Service program see the Factory Library as a different size and say it needs updated essentially wiping the whole thing back to it's original files?

Can't really see how this is better than Quick Load. I actually use Quick Load for most things, even a lot of those those that appear in the libraries tab. I don't know if libraries added in this way would appear in the Komplet Kontrol browser libraries tab rather than the User tab, but unless you had mapped the control parameters to a pre-set you would not gain much anyway. If I get really board I might try it.

It's a nifty bit of info, but I agree with Glyn. You can resize the Quick Load pane and your samples can reside in a location of your choosing.

The Libraries tab is more attractive than the Quick Load menu, but Quick Load allows me to better organize my libraries in a way that makes sense to me. If there is a Kontakt 6 in the works, I think a good solution would be to be able to hit a "library" button that expands all of the Kontakt Player compatible libraries into a large, square screen so you can see a dozen or more at a time and then make that scrollable. Also, being able to classify the libraries based on type (such as orchestral, synth, rock), or by developer and then choose a filter to display only those of your choosing would be a great addition.
Lastly, when trying to drag one of the libraries to a new position in the libraries tab, why in the world does it take a decade to scroll through the list? They really need to fix that! Haha!
