How to add accent to a vocal?
I would like to experiment with vocal, having different accents. Does anyone have an idea of how this can be accomplished? Any VST to apply to dry recording? Filters combination? Anything else? Many thanks for sharing information on this topic!

I think you need to define what you mean by "accent"

If you mean accent like French, Irish, Italian.. I highly doubt there is such software available, VST or otherwise. I am an audio software junky, and I have never seen anything like what you are asking for. I may be wrong, but I think the only way to get a vocal track where the voice has an accent is to record one..

Wow. This surely goes straight into my top five of most strange questions. Would you like to explain a little? And if you mean accents of language, not accentuation of speech, I'd be sincerely interested to know if you really expect there to be a VST for that?? :o) :o)

I worked for YEARS to get a passable "Irish" accent and "Southern" US accent for some of my stuff. Heck... I've even duplicated Bronx and West Coast accents for stuff. If this is actually about regional dialects and inflections all I can say is buy a bunch of albums where the vocalist has the accent you want and sing along with them over and over again to the point of madness and you might get close.

And if you are REALLY serious about this kind of thing sign up for an acting school that offers classes in learning accents. It is a LOT of work.

V Vocal might be able to add some "accent" to words using its formant controls

Ah man... I think imitating a Welsh accent would be very difficult. Geordie accent? That would probably require cutting off specific chunks of my own tongue and having marbles surgically implanted in my cheeks.

I think an accent removal tool would be helpful as well!

To the best of my knowledge there is no way software plugins can assist with regional dialects and inflections. (Although V Vocal can assist with textures.) If you find any info contrary to this please let me know. Unless you want to sing Irish folksongs or heavy dub reggae vocals then I’m not sure what there is to gain by attempting to incorporate a regional accent/parlance with your singing. Having said that… Study “Vowel fracture”. If you here a word spoken in an accent that you want to reproduce, listen carefully how the vowel sounds are formed. That is to say the stressed and/or unstressed elements. I’m generalising here, but regional accents are formed by the way vowels are pronounced, not so much consonants. Climatic conditions vary how vowels are sounded; in colder climates the mouth is kept less open restricting external temperatures while warmer climates the mouth is more open. Listen to world accents and consider the temperature range of the area and you will hear what I mean, compare a Scottish accent to a South African accent. As I said I’m generalising, other variants such as European colonization etc come into play such as “Isochrony” the “timing” of accents and so on. Beester is 100% correct “sign up for an acting school that offers classes in learning accents. Beester is 1000% correct “It is a LOT of work.” Also local dram/ pantomime classes and skype with someone from the other side of the world. Youtube is a huge source of input. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7tsljuK4f2E Just make sure you cross check and not to make a blunder like this… http://www.youtube.com/wa...IVc&feature=fvwrel I have been involved in voice over work for nigh on 20 years and at times this niche market has saved my bacon when music production has been sluggish. (Sure pays to diversify) It is a fascinating area to explore if that’s your thing. I’m Geordie born and bread, but had the good fortune to have parts of my upbringing living all around the world. My own natural accent is now what you technically call “bastardised“ because I have picked up a bit from here and a bit from there. Fortunately accents do not greatly influence the written word much, apart from some phonetic spelling and people state side forgetting to put the “u” in “colour” I hate that. Hope this helps
