*** How to change audio sample rate in a project ? ***

Got an old project that I'm doing some updating on.  When I originally did it it was at 44.1kHz; 24 bit.   Since then I've gotten much more detailed libraries and sounds, which is part of the reason I'm updating and replacing some of the parts in the project.

I know about the change audio option but that only seems to apply to bit depth.  I'd like to change the sample rate...possibly to 48kHz or 96, but I'm not quite sure how to achieve this other than exporting and reimporting which honestly I would like to avoid.

Is there a better/quicker way to achieve this?

You need to do this in Preferences/audio. Its going to be for new projects. If you need to change the sample rate of files imported you can do in the import dialog box.

You will also have to set the sample rate if needed on the audio interface's software and perhaps its hardware.

Thanks for the reply John, but as I said in the OP this is for an old production that I'm basically giving new life to.  This was something I made years ago and want to update and revamp as a lot of the parts like the strings and piano were from my Fantom (which was all I had at the time) and I want to update the sounds and add some new ideas since I now have much more realistic and higher quality virtual alternatives these days.  Originally the project was set at 44.1 and I wanted to bump it up as nowadays I try to do all my projects at at least 48 or higher.   I honestly want try it out at 96.

Just wondering if that is possible.  Similar to the way you can change the bit depth of a project.

You will need to convert the audio to the new sample rate. I do this in Sound Forge using batch mode. I don't think Sonar can change an existing project's sample rate. The audio is all in that sample rate. The only to do it in Sonar is to import the audio into a new project.

This just came up the other day. You can change the sample rate of a project, but only if it has no audio in it. So the drill is this:

    1. Set SONAR's default rate for new projects to the existing project's rate.
    2. Open the project, and export all the tracks individually as Broadcast Waves at their native sample rate and bit depth with names that will make it easy for you to know what tracks they came from (the default naming for track exports may be enough).
    3. Delete all the clips in the project, which will disassociate them from the project without losing the original stored audio files or the exported copies.
    4. Change the default rate in Preferences to the new desired rate, and the stripped project will change with it since it contains no audio to prevent that.
    5. Import the exported files back into the project, track by track, and SONAR will do the sample rate conversion.

Note that you can skip step 2 if all the audio tracks begin at 00:00:00:00. The purpose of that is to make it easier to get audio clips that didn't start at time zero re-imported to the right times. Credit for this suggestion goes to Guitarpima.
