How to change the sample rate of my project? (96 KHz to 44.1 KHz)

Hello guys,

Is it possible to change the sample rate of a project from 96 KHz to 44.1 KHz? I have not been able to figure out if/how to do it.

Really appreciate your help.

Cheers,

Jhon

preferences/audio/driver settings,, is it a project full of audio files, if so, render them 44.1 first, create a new project, and set it to 44.1 and load the files in, if its all midi and softsynths, changing the sample can alter the sound of your instruments

You can copy over the midi tracks, by the way. It's only the Wave Files that you need to export.

You can choose Export Tracks with FX disabled to export the tracks you want.

Then import them to the other project with the new sample rate as Chregg describes.

You can export your Pro Channel Settings by clicking the save icon for the pro channels and then opening them in the pro channels for the new projects.

You can drag FX from the old project to the new from the FX Bins, I believe. Give it a try anyway. If that doesn't work, you could drag FX from the FX bins to the Pro Channel FX Bins before saving the Pro Channel.

You can also copy over envelopes.

I believe when you copy over your midi tracks, it will bring tempo changes with it by default.

I'm not sure the best way to get your soft synths from one project to another identically. Perhaps, try this... Make a track template including the midi input and output tracks and import that track template.

(Am I going totally overboard here? I'm not sure what your project actually looks like.).

You might check you copy wave file to new location in preferences before you import the wav files to the new project.

Good luck and happy mixing! I must say I prefer mixing 44.1 files in most cases as well. I can certainly bounce faster, so if it's a band I don't really like...

I make some videos. This one shows how to do a physical loopback on the RME UCX to get many more equalizer nodes.

I've never tried this, but has anyone attempted to use R8Brain to convert all the audio files and then simply change the project's sample rate? I gotta imagine this wouldn't work for some reason, else it would be common practice, but it sounds reasonable.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

That would be too easy. The documented method is here

Once a project is started at a determined sample rate, the project will always play at that sample rate, even if you use R8Brain to convert the sample rates inside the project.   You will have to start a new project with the different sample rate that you converted the files to, or you'll hear the Devil or Chipmunks (slow or fast)

Projects that are synth only with no audio can be switched to a new sample rate by changing the default sample rate while the project is open. I haven't tried this recently but it should automatically switch.
If you have any audio files in the project (in tracks or matrix) you will need to remove them first and save and reload the project however.

My preferred method is to do this.

    1. In the "old" project, export all the individual tracks using the export function set to tracks.
    2. Delete all the audio waves within that project. (Just the waves, leave FX, tracks, busses, etc all as is)
    3. Use the Track sort command to sort all tracks alphabetically.
    4. Use "Save as..." to save it as a template.
    5. Set the new project sample rate as described elsewhere here.
    6. Start a new project using the template you've just saved.
    7. Import all the waves you've just exported in one go. They will all  be imported in alphabetical order hence the re-ordering earlier.
    8. Rearrange tracks and "Save as..." new project.

All your routing, FX, etc will now be as it was but at the new sample rate.

HTH and I hope I haven't missed anything as I'm working from memory - at my age it isn't what it once was.

Having had to do this before, this sounds like a great opportunity for an enhancement to a future Sonar version. It shouldn't be this much work, lol.
