How to create Multisamples for Rapture

Hi, I am a heavy user of a MPC, which means I love to build up my own sample sets. In practice, the MPC is not the First choice to play with keyboard splits and keygroup programs.
I would like to use Rapture Pro as my primary Sampler in the studio, because the Synth capabilities are great.
But: Is there any way to build your own multisample without being a total nerd? At the MPC it is fun to create and fix all your samples - I can't even find a way to start with that...

Any good advice?

The key is learning a little about the sfz file format. There are thousands of examples in the multisample folder. The sfz files are text files and can be created/edited/viewed in any text editor. Some prefer to use a special tool to build new sfz files. Here are links to a couple of free tools
http://audio.clockbeat.com/sfZed.html
http://mildon.me/sfzdesigner
and an SOS article about the sfz file format http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/apr08/articles/sonartech_0408.htm

There is more but this is a start.

Oh, yeh. Nothing as enlightening as studying sfz files...

J/K, vdd. The format has been around long enough that there is a lot of reference material available. However, it is definitely nerd territory. Sorry.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Thanks a lot! I checked the tools, but I think I need more detailed Information:I was not able to find the documentation at the Cakewalk pages. Just some overviews via Google, but no deep manual. The MPC uses easy-to-read xml, which means a good manual of sfz would make it possible to write a little tool. That is the opposite of my former plan not doing nerdy stuff - but if that is The way...
Anybody there with a link to the sfz/sfz2 documentation?

Thank you arachnaut! That is exactly the information I needed. By the way: You also taught me that I need to learn how to google... ;)

The non-nerd method is to find a patch that kinda meets your idea of multi-sample splits and adapt the SFZ text as needed.  Simply point to the samples you want to use instead and move the splits to the notes you prefer.  If you have a few more samples you copy and paste the text lines and change as needed.  It is pretty simple.  Less nerd than busy work.

Cake really should have come up w/ a simple, visual editor for some of these simple functions since they were heavily invested in SFZ.  Cake, it ain't too late....

IIRC, Sforzando (free) has a text editor built in. It is also useful for drilling into DimPro patches as it displays which keys are actually mapped to sounds (many DP presets have dead keys).

I never used Sforzando with Rapture though. Is the data structure the same as DP?

Hi everyone,
Your thoughts were very helpful.
I will start a little conversion tool project to get my sample sets from MPC to sfz. If somebody is interested, I will give updates to that.

I think it is a weak point of the CW synth, that there is no intuitive way to put your multisamples together without external tools. If there would be just a windows to
- chop,
- trim,
- and loop your samples
- followed by an editor to put them into the keygroups
the already cool synth like DimPro or RapturePro would be a first choise as sampler replacement. I understand, selling sound libs is an important part of the business, but come on: Nobody wants to build up their grand piano multilayer by itself, we are speaking about people with analog gear and the interest to create their own sound within the DAW - or even "spoon drumset" designers.
