How to get ACT to work with a Roland Keyboard

Before you tell me to read the manual, i did. I read everything i could find but i can't get the ACT function to work.

Can someone please post a fool proof step by step how to get my Roland A-500 to communicate with Sonar and control whatever VST with the keyboard.

The keyboard itself works fine, the sounds are working...i just wish to use the knobs and buttons to control the plugins i'm using. That's what ACT is supposed to do right?

Thanks!
