Sorry I've been calling it CWFB and I'm not sure where I got that from. If everyone else is calling it CbB, I'll go with that name instead.

Anyway, I left CbB open with BA closed while I was away from the computer for an hour or more. When I returned it can come out of demo mode and said valid till some date in 2037 or whatever. But when I closed it and relaunched it, it was back in demo mode again.

What about situation like this? It looks like sonar is 100% downloaded by assistant but there is no possibility to install it. I switched firewalls and antivirus off. Downloaded files are in download folder. Did anyone of You have the same problem?

The same symptoms occurred when I tried to install Cakewalk by Bandlab, it turned out to be related to the antivirus/firewall's auto-containment feature. Once this was deactivated, the install completed.

Bandlab assistant and CbB installed without issue on one computer.  I tried to just install the executables on my main computer.  Logged into Bandlab assistant without issue, but by using the Cakewalk.exe, I ran into DEMO mode.  The dialog box just said I needed to log in to Bandlab, but doing that didn't change anything.  I needed to uninstall, and redownload and reinstall through Bandlab Assistant.  All after Bandlab needed an update.  At least out of demo mode now.  Setting up a few things, and it appears Cakewalk will be back in 'play!' on my systems.

Still not sure if that coffee mug for $49 will fulfill my life yet.

Hello ... Cakewalk only works in demo mode ... I have already done all possible procedures ... It is not because of anti virus nor because of firewall ... They are properly disabled ... My system is Windows 7 64-bit ... I'm logged in to the BandLab Assistant ...
Thanks any help ...

Hi you must INSTALL through BandLab assistant. Trying to run the installer manually will not result in a successful installation.

Hello ... I have done just that.
I am logged in to the BandLab Assistant, including opening Cakewalk through it. I do not know how to attach an image here, otherwise I would show what happens when I open the software.

Is it some incompatibility with Windows 7?
Does it lack any complement?

Hey guys we're pretty sure we know whats going on and it will get fixed next week. It appears to be an incompatibility with powershell and some systems.
To understand whats going on better can you share what is the error code listed next to the serial number in the about box? It should be two numbers like this (xx,xx)

Hi you must INSTALL through BandLab assistant. Trying to run the installer manually will not result in a successful installation.

FYI

I had the CbB  and Assistant file in my downloads. I you saw in my thread I uninstalled them both in a stupid moment we can forget why...

All I did was re install the assistant and log on.
Then I ran the CbB executable directly as Admin and it work just fine.
I will be installing it to my Laptop at some point this week and my plan was to copy the 2 files over using a USB stick and run them from there.
So am I correct that really all that is required is to be Logged on to the Assistant?

Re: How to get out of Demo Mode? 2018/04/07 20:47:47 (permalink)
This is what I've found...

- The initial install needs to be via BandLab Assistant; since you're logged in to BandLab (which you have to be to download/install Cakewalk), the authorisation process works, and a file is written to the ProgramData folder (see below) which contains the information for Cakewalk (the DAW) to know it's been authorised.

- Subsequent installs can be using the cakewalk.exe file that BLA downloads to your Downloads folder *provided* you haven't (like I did by accident!) futzed with the C:\ProgramData\Cakewalk\Cakewalk Core folder's contents too badly.  If you have, you'll need to re-run the installer via BLA, which necessarily re-downloads the cakewalk.exe installer.

- Once you've installed correctly, you don't need to be running BLA and can sign out of BLA should you want to (probably uninstall it even, although I haven't tested that!) - it's the initial installation that requires you to be logged in and installing via BLA.

I notice there are 2 instances of BandLab Assistant.exe under processes in Task Manager. One is 35,924K in size. The other is 31,096K. When I close BA they don't disappear. Is that intentional?

There should be 3 background processes called BandLab Assistant when "X"ing out of the app. To completely shutdown BA use the Quit option on the menu attached to the gear in the upper left of the BA UI.

I'm only seeing 2. But there is a third one that appears briefly when I launch the app but then immediately disappears.

I've just downloaded and installed the BandLab Assistant update (v3.0.6) but this didn't solve anything. CbB remains in demo mode.

What happens if you open BandLab Assistant and sign in there.  From the Apps tab in BandLab Assistant, uninstall Cakewalk by Bandlab and then reinstall Cakewalk by Bandlab.

Re: How to get out of Demo Mode? 2018/04/10 09:20:35 (permalink)
I got out of this problem by:

Making sure I had Bandlab Assistant 3.0.6 installed (not 3.0.4)
Un-installed CbB
RE-downloaded CbB (it didn't work if I tried to use the original download files)
Install CdB using Bandlab Assistant.

Although this re-install stuck at 100% and didn't complete, I terminated Bandlab Assistant and ran the files which had been downloaded, and all went well.

In my experience, missing out any one of these steps resulted in failure to cure Demo Mode.
During one of the many failed attempts, I did see that Bandlab Assistant in Task Manager tries more than 46 times to open Powershell, which speaks to Noel's point above.

Hope this helps.
(Got immediate feedback from Cakewalk support by email, by the way)

Same problem with Bandlab Assistant, it opens up, i log in click to download Cakewalk and the BA disappears and nothing happens. Tried to Download on another Computer which worked, installed it and it is in Demo Mode. When i open the BA it says Cakewalk is installed when i want to open it nothing happens. Hope you find a solution and thanks for not letting my DAW die, i work with it for nearly 20years.

3 reinstalls in 3 days... CbB still seems to think it is in Membership mode, with an expiry of today, so I expect I'll be reinstalling again tomorrow. With a poor broadband connection, having to re-download every day is painful. Can't we just get a licence code to change this to an "owned" product and stop this Demo nonsense?

Edit: Now it says 10/10/2018. Maybe my eyes deceived me.

...If you run into demo mode for some reason, uninstall/reinstall from there...

I clicked on the "Uninstall" option in BA. Nothing happened. CWFB is still installed. Even clicking on "Open" in BA doesn't do anything either. Is this meant to launch CWFB? I'm getting the impression that the problem here is with BA rather than CWFB.

Uninstall CbB via "programs and features" in Control Panel.  Run BA 3.06 and log on and then reinstall CbB from there.

Bandlab and some antivirus software packages don't seem to agree. if you have issues upgrading or running Assistant switch off antivirus for a  few minutes.

Hello all,
I have removed all bandlab downloads until they correct this. It is a little funny that the donate page appears first and waits a long time before loading with the tab to run. Seems no donation=no undemoed mode. Lol. Will wait for proper downloading. One thing I have to state. Hooray for Meng, but he did not rescue cakewalk, he saw and grabbed it from a business point of view. Even though he said he used it, he still saw, and sees it as a viable service for his company. Remember, it still is about business. OK, enough of that stuff. Thanks again Meng. Now, just need to be able to open it to see how it is.

Re: How to get out of Demo Mode? 2018/04/12 14:42:08 (permalink)
Tried to reinstall everything to get out of Demo Mode. Now. after uninstalling everything, i reinstalled freshly loaded Assistant 3.0.6 and when i try to install CbB, the assistant simply closes. I already excluded the assistant app's folder from Windows Defender and Firewall is not running. In the downloads folder, there are the cakewalk.exe with size of 704 KB and instruments.exe with 640 KB, that's it. So essentially, i do not have any CbB installation anymore, nor i can re-install it.
I even tried to delete everything incl. the compatibility store entries in the Windows registry, nothing changes this behaviour. When i try to install, the assistant opens the webpage with the donations and closes, leaving those incomplete downloads.
System Win 8.1 Pro.

Any help would be appreciated.
