How to get this effect on X1?

Please see this video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUDTlvagjJA
I want to get the effect of this audio. I want to position an instrument above my head or behind my ear. I saw this feature in sonar x1 about surround panner, but it doesn't really do what I want.

I heard it was called binaural recording and was wondering if there is an fx or another way than buying a mic for this.

Thanks

There are some amazing demos using this technique of recording.  The whole trick is in the microphone technique and listening on headphones.  It is simple stereo.  I have never heard of a simulator for this.

sounds like a mid/side technique.  Check this site out:  http://www.recording-microphones.co.uk/Mid%20Side%20FLV/Mid%20Side2.html

it sounds similar to mid/side technique, but how do you make sound come from a specific spot e.g. behind the ear.
I did learn from that video though.

Also of note, in that video there is a Q Sound add right smack in the middle of it. I have the Q sound plugs here and use them often for trippy sound placements.

Here is Q Sound in action taken directly from the old plugin disc I purchased years ago.

Good call Danny. I noticed that "Q Sound" ad but when I followed it didn't look like they were pushing any plugins. I recall those Q Sound Plugs from the old Cakewalk Pro Audio Days, I think I still have a couple archived somewhere.  (time to go digging)

Don't fix it in the mix ... Fix it in the take!

Thank you for all the help so far.

The Qsound is preatty good, but is there a plugin that the effect works for both people who use headphones and speakers? Because when I took a look at them some say put headphones on when listening and some say use speakers. Is there a way to create this effect for both

Can I use two normal sm 57 mics to create this effect when recording?

With binaural recordings, two mics are placed in a model of a human head (to simulate the perspective of each ear).
You can use a pair of 57 mics to record stereo (or simulate binaural)... but it's not the best choice for this purpose.
The 57 was designed as a live mic... (rejects off-axis audio to reduce feedback).
Thus, the 57 isn't particularly sensitive to off-axis audio... and it will tend to color those sounds.
If you have a pair of small diaphragm condenser mics (omni pattern), you'd get better results with those.

The 57's forte' is capturing a tightly focused aggressive midrange tone.
Perfect for recording guitar and snare drum... or any scenario where you want to capture that aggressive mid-range tone.
ie:  Mic a bass cab with both a large diaphragm condenser... and a 57.  The LDC provides the "size"... and the 57 provides the "bite" and articulation.
