How to get this type of sound... reversed piano effect?? Or something

If you listen to this instrumental song, from 3:06-3:20...

In that part, the song has a sort of... reveresed piano sounding effect. I don't know how else to describe it, but it sounds pretty cool. Anyone have any idea how they created it? I honestly can't tell what instrument it is, I'm just guessing piano but it could be anything.

It's also found in this song, starting at 1:20. Theres electric guitar playing, and this reversed instrument comes in on certain beats.

You can try reversing the audio clip (Process - Apply Effect - Reverse).

This trick is explained in details in the Advanced Workshop, The Next Level :

Take a copy of the song and reverse it during those parts to figure what they reversed. It's usually done by completely reversing whatever track you're working on, record over the top of it, then just reverse the entire track and keep working.

A more extreme example of juxtaposing forwards/backwards audio:

    Then the same song reversed:

    Hi Vault,

All they did was reverse the piano in the first song. We have this function in Sonar. Select the track, go to process, choose audio, then look for reverse and it will give you the same exact thing.

Just to show you for sure that this is how it's being done, I took the liberty to record a section of the instrumental song you posted up on you tube. I took the section from 2:54, recorded it into Sonar, and then reversed it using the method I told you about. The results are the main melody that plays through the song but now the drums and flute or whatever that is are reversed. Listen for yourself. :)

    Ah, gotcha!

Yes I knew about the reverse function in SONAR, but I didn't think this was exactly that. My theory was, if you take a chord progression (say G D Em C) and reverse it, it'll end up as C Em D G so when you lay it on top of the original song... the chords won't align. But after listening to Danny's clip (thanks a bunch btw, Danny) it realized that's exactly what they did! So I did a little experiment here real quick, and found out exactly how they did it. They reversed the main piano line, then basically made cuts in between each chord change... and rearranged the reversed audio to make the chords align with the main line. Interesting!

Also... Resonant Order, those clips creeped the heck out of me  but I understood your point, thanks
