How to have Aux track be Solo'd with individual tracks feeding it?
Alright, I feel like a n00b all over again but hoping for simple (and timely) solution. I'm sure this has been figured out... or if not please let me know so I can abandon my current plan. I have set up my first "Aux" track scheme. Track 1 + Track 2 Sent to Aux 1 It seems if I try to solo Track 1 or Track 2 I have to ALSO go out of my way to solo Aux 1. Has a workflow been figured out whereby if I solo a single track in a series of tracks that feed an Aux bus that the Aux Bus solos as well? Or how do I work this? Essentially I would like to be able to solo Track 1 and/or Track 2 independently without having to take the extra step of Soloing the Aux bus or creating control groups (and I'm not sure a control group would work anyway because it might solo BOTH Track 1 and 2). Sorry... I r stoopid. I am setting up a project so could use a quick answer if possible even if this is not possible (in which case I will have to abandon my nefarious Aux Bus scheme... which would be a shame). Thanks in advance.

Currently not possible, but will work if you put all associates tracks in the same folder and use the folder Solo.

And just in case it's not clear what I'm trying to do... Currently when I have a bunch of tracks sent to a Bus in the Bus Pane I can solo a track and that will be all I hear (unless there is a send to an effect bus or something but that's another story). I would like that behavior with my Aux tracks if at all possible. I am grouping "doubled" guitar tracks and thought the Aux track system would be a good way to manage that in the Track area... but if Soloing becomes a pain it's not gonna work for me.

Weird. How does that work? Check out my previous post to see what I'm trying. I think you of all folks would know exactly what my needs are (and really any guitarhead). Thanks for the quick answer though. I may just have to abandon my plan.... which is disappointing because that was my main reason for updating today. D'oh!

I get what you are trying to do, but ran into issues as well trying for a similar goal. Lets hope that aux/patch is going to evolve... T

Thanks, Tom. I will definitely be posting a feature request (or voting for any current ones) that allows for this type of behavior. Strikes me as odd this was overlooked considering the massive amount of guitar players using Sonar... and... well it just kind of makes sense. I am very appreciative of the quick replies. I'll just continue on with my old workflow until I have time to retrain myself to make this happen. I'm guessing I'd just have to get used to clicking both solo buttons as I work or maybe waiting to set up the Aux tracks until it's time for the final mix. Cheers.

Sorry for the quick reply earlier. I was on my phone so keeps me "short and sweet." When introduced, the aux track/patch point solo does not follow the same solo functionality as tracks/busses. I had originally asked that in this thread, and Noel has chimed in a couple times to say that is intended to be updated. For me, I initially played with them feeding from tracks that were not even adjacent to each other, let alone the same folder, so the functionality fell apart for me in short order. I do not keep routing diagrams for projects, so not being able to isolate feeds became problematic (even more so if walk away from the project so is no longer fresh-in-mind). Putting tracks into a folder does work for the time being, but is a little less flexible.

I also asked about it, unaware of Mettelus' previous asking at the time, and got the same response. I think we'll see an update on this feature as it's a new one and I'm sure they've put it high on their list. EDIT http://forum.cakewalk.com/patch-points-m3320876.aspx Of course Mettelus' thread was previous...but another confirm from Noel.

Thanks, guys. I have some ideas for how they could manage this like perhaps a bisected solo button as soon as a track becomes routed to an Aux track (so one half solos only the track and the other half solos the track and any downstream tracks) and/or a right click context menu that sets the solo behavior for individual solo buttons. That could also use the bisected button scheme so two user settings can be applied for each button... and maybe even allow to choose which downstream targets are included in the soloing action. hmmm... Unless they do something in the next month or so though I'll likely be out of luck because my subscription will be up soon. D'oh! For now I guess for THIS particuar purpose it's not SUCH a huge deal to hit two solo buttons because the tracks will be right next to each other but it's still pretty clunky. Cheers.

You can also solo-override (Shift + Solo) the Aux Track. Just avoid using the Solo button in the Mix Module to clear all solos, because it will also clear overrides. Also, in the case that you want to solo the aux track with all its inputs, I just discovered that Ctrl-clicking the solo button of any track routed to an Aux track - or the Aux track itself - solos all tracks associated with the patch point. I don't recall this being mentioned in any of the other threads; possibly it's undocumented...?

Thanks for that tip Dave! I've been having the same issue as Beep. I have every group of tracks sent to an AUX, ie in and out kick, top and bottom snare, etc. It really is very time consuming to solo the AUX and the associated tracks individually.

I'm having a hard time envisioning this but I decided to go ahead and set up my "doubled" tracks with Aux tracks anyway so I'm sure a decent workflow will expose itself and I'll have this thread to reference as I go. I'd normally go nuts testing it all out but this is an actual bit of session work so it'll be a trial by fire scenario. I gotta say I think nested folders would definitely make some of this a little more manageable at least from an organizational perspective. This is probably the most basic use of these new features (two tracks feeding one Aux x 3 sets of tracks) so it won't be too stupid even in the worst case but definitely some refinement seems in order. I'll report back and ask questions as I move forward. Thanks.

Smart solo for aux tracks is coming in the next update. It's a powerful feature that will internally handle streaming all related tracks our buses when you solo an aux track. No manual solo our mute will be necessary anymore.
