How to make a

Well I'm getting somewhere...but slowly :)

Prototype but if it works out
I doubt I'll re-do for looks.
or maybe how not to...

Wanted to make sure the drive was true and it is.
The round belt I have is very long but works for testing
and the motor/speed control works fine- quiet and smooth.

Next is to go get a calculator with a nice screen and tap it
to wire the magnetic switch so I can read how many turns/wraps.

Just finished testing and a little excited - thought I'd share.
I'm starting to see spacey pups in my future :)

Even your prototypes look better than a lot of stuff that's on the market!

Should auld acquaintance be forgot--hey, who the hell are you guys?

    LOL...thank you.

There may be others that attempt this - not knowing if the
bearing set-up can be seen when completed I wanted to show it
    now.
Most would probably use the flange mount bearings and just set them in
the case - the reason I used pillow block is so the alignment would
be easy- mount it where it sets at rest....and it worked. Easy
and run out is excellent. (very important to drill the shaft bore in
bobbin true) Those two points made for a very smooth, no vibration
run-out. Nothing else would matter if this step isn't within a couple of thousandths
    on the bobbin mounts.

My buddy makes a living building pickups and his rig looks like something pulled out of a tip compared to yours.

I appreciate the kudos and thank you.

I haven't been concerned about appearance because
once I had the mechanics/parts lined out I'd
    have to redesign...maybe not..I don't know.

Anyway, those interested may be aware of Jason Lollar. He
wrote a book that was discontinued and copies started showing
up and I read that some paid hundreds (3 easy) to get a copy...
He decided to stop that and released another version.

I don't want to say it isn't worth it but...I think it's over priced.
The only thing I got out of it was how he used an oscillating fan
motor for a traverse. Still going to be scatter wound with one so I don't
see it worth the hassle...maybe down the road I may.

I just figured out how I want the motor mounted and ordered the
correct round belt(s) so I'll update when it's powered up.
Craig I was typing while you posted.....I think I'm the robot.
