How to match vocal track to project tempo (remix question)

I have a vocal track recorded at 90bpm and now I need to increase the tempo to around 120 for a remix project. I tried to do audio stretching from the loop construction view and checked the "follow project tempo" check box and set the original tempo to 90. Though the audio now plays at 120, it sounds like the vocals are doubled and a second voice is closely following the first one. Overall the result is not clean. Is there something that I am missing ? Thanks Rishi

    Re-record it.

It's the ONLY way to get a clean, natural result

If re-recording is not an option, you could try breaking up the vocal clip into smaller clips (by phrase) and move them around as needed. You could use audiosnap, split at transients. It might help to enable transients on the backing track to see where the phrases need to land. You may need to create another vocal track to make room for the vocal phrases since your increasing the bpm.Just an idea. Good Luck!

The default algorithm for stretching real-time won't sound great stretched too far. You'll want to set the offline algorithm to the Vocal setting in the Track Inspector when in the Clip window, and actually bounce the vocal to a new clip to apply the better stretching algorithm.

There are numerous ways to tackle this and it is a good idea to familiarize yourself with various methods since each has benefits and disadvantages. It has already been mentioned that you can try adjusting the time stretching algorithm.  You can also try third party programs that do a cleaner job of timestretching. I sometimes open files I need timestretched from within Sonar using Sound Forge and use the Ekastique timestretch.  Another old school remixing technique is good ole chopping.  Cut all the words (sometimes you can get away with phrases) into clips and manually place them to fit .  It's kind of the way a Rex file works but you are doing it manually.  It can be tedious, but it can also provide lots of flexibility for glitch and stutter type effects since you have more individualized control over each word.
