How to move a clip left or right smoothly w/o grid

So I just watched the video on X2 which was good. But still no answer on how to move a clip very slightly right or left. It seems to have a minimum and than jerks to that spot. I have grid turned off. I just simply want a smooth infinitive move. Something must be turned on and I don't know what. Please help

Try typing N to disable snap.  You can also, mid-drag, hold N down.  That will temporarily switch to the alternative snap settings, which in the templates, is the equivalent to snap off.  More info: http://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation/default.aspx?Doc=SONAR%20X2&Lang=EN&Req=Arranging.14.28.html#1470987

There are also nudge settings in Preferences.  Set that to the amount you want and use the num pad to nudge your data around. More info: http://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation/default.aspx?Doc=SONAR%20X2&Lang=EN&Req=Arranging.14.24.html#1470835

OK, still can't move a clip a small amount right or left 2012/09/25 21:44:39 (permalink)
I have been looking for over an hour. What setting sets my clip move to absolute. I do not have grid on so it should not have anything to do with that. any ideas. it will move about a 1/32 but nothing todo with grid. If I just need to push it a hair, it just goes back to its position. is this a bug?

Right click the Snap to Grid button and try disabling the "zero crossings" checkbox. Let me know if it helps. Thanks.

To move a clip by "a hair"

Press 5 on your numeric keypad.
Change nudge 3 settings to 1 sample
    Ok out of preferences
Select object you need to move
Press 7 to nudge left or 9 to nudge right.

You may need to press it a few times at 1 sample to get a hair's width. It depends on how thick you hair is.... what's hair?

The snap to zero did not work. That seems to only have effect when snap is turned on. and I have it off or the clip will snap. Also the nudge thing sort of works but takes more work to get it where I want it. It seems like I should be able to click my mouse on it and drag it

The nudge function has three settings, that you can set to suit your self.

If you want to click and drag it you need to set one of the snaps to the resolution you want and then use that instead. Snap doesn't have to be musical times there are absolute options to choose from.

I have all three nudge options set to absolute and all three set to one sample. If I open up my X1 version. I can drag a clip very slightly. as soon as there is a glimse of a ghost image, it will move. However in X2, I need a bit larger ghost image before it will move. How about you guys, can you drag a clip very slightly or do you need a bit larger ghoast image before it will move. Is this a bug?

Sounds like a snap settings issue to me. Remember there's now two settings and the snap intensity setting will also make a difference. Find that in snap preferences.

Each to their own but I can't see the logic in having all three nudge settings on the same setting. Surely three different settings to suit your needs would make more sense wouldn't it?

If snap to is turned off, it seems like that should not effect a move. Thats why we turn it off. On the nudge issue,, I've just tried to put them all to the slightest move. But then again, a click hold and move seems like it should not be tied into a nudge. Sounds like a bug to me if I can not simply click hold and drag a slight amount. there should not be a minimum as in X1.   errrg, sounds like I might have to call tech support

Something's not right there. The nudge definitely shouldn't affect the click & drag, the snap value does that. If snap is off you should be able to move by any amount you want be that large or small.

With snap on the drag move will be constrained by those settings, but you should still be able to set those as small as a number of samples, ticks, seconds or frames. Intensity will also affect how effective it is.
