How to route existing MIDI channels through soft synths?

I finally got around to trying out X2 and figured I would try something "simple" and realized I do not understand routing. I took a generic MIDI file and loaded it, then inserted the SI-Bass Guitar," and sent the output from the MIDI bass track to the input on the SI-Bass. The SI-Bass plays with a midi input keyboard fine (auto-echo active track), but the linkage this way makes no sound at all soloing the trrack(s) and starting the transport. Then I tried copying/pasting the midi clip into the SI-Bass track specifically, soloed that track, and again nothing. The Bass track is set to input M-Audio Ozone Omni, output to the SI-Bass. SI-Bass does not have an input other than a controller (which it will echo). I simply want to drive the SI-Bass from an existing MIDI track, but not sure what I am doing wrong. Also, this MIDI file does have 16 existing tracks, and I cannot find how to change MIDI channels within X2, so wonder if I made my own conflicting loop here. Also... as I was typing this message, I found my other issue... when activating different tracks, I no longer can hear the bass UNLESS I change the bass program (sound file). I have no clue why this happens... the only thing I have changed is active track a few times, and soloed/unsoloed things to check reaction.... then the auto-echo goes away unless the bass sound is changed.

    There is a button on each channel strip in the console view, right below the FX bin, called Midi Output Channel, or something like that.  Click on that and you can change the midi channel for that track.

    By default, the Input Echo button will be automatically activated for the track that is in focus.  When you then switch to another track - bringing it into focus, Sonar will turn off the Input Echo for the prior track and turn it on for the new track as it comes into focus.  Additionally, you can manually turn Input Echo on and off on whatever tracks you want.

    Although it should happen automatically check that the SI-Bass output track is also being soloed.

    MIDI channels can be changed from the track's header or the Inspector. If you use the header make sure the track manager preset is set to "All" - it is changed from the dropdown menu at the top of the track header to the right of the now time. It may be on "Custom" at the moment.

    That might be your audio engine turning off - check that in the transport module display window in the control bar. It's the icon in the bottom left corner of that display and should be lit indicating it is on. Click on it to turn it on/off.

    Michael, the best way to get what you want, in my opinion, is as follows.

    Choose Insert > Soft Synth > SI Bass.

    Make sure in the Synth Properties dialog that you select "Midi Source" and "Enable First Synth Output".

    Now simply copy the midi information from your imported midi track into the Midi track created by inserting the synth.

    You should be good to go
