How to see take numbers while tracking?

Earlier today I ran into a situation with take lanes that I hope someone can help with. I was tracking a violin solo and had loop recording running while I adjusted the mics and the soloist was practicing the part.  I kept the loop going to stay in the flow once everything was set and we were ready to try some real takes.
 
As we are going I am ready to take notes, like "take 3 - nice groove, rough intro" or whatever. I only then realize I can't see what take lane I am on while recording is still ongoing.  I ended up stopping after the next pass, at which time Sonar wrote the take lanes and I could see which is which, before starting up again.  This is certainly not critical, but it would be nice to see some indication of what take you are in while looping.  Is there some way to do this?
