How to setup/use Kontakt instruments correctly ?

My Kontakt player now consists of Scarbee Bass (Pre,MM and Jay, all none amp version), Funk Guitarist and with the latest addition of Session Horns.

I didn't gave much though when I use the Scarbee Bass - I'll just insert it as soft synth, as I seldom use the Funk Guitarist. Since it's a none amp version, I would also insert Guitar Rig effect as well.

Now with the new Session Horns, what is the most efficient method to load Kontakt ?

Do I load Kontakt twice, into 2 separate tracks (one for bass, another one for Session Horns) ?

Or do I setup one of the multi outs (8 or 16) - never use it before, so I can use one instance of Kontakt for both bass and horns ? And if I do this, will it have 2 separate audio tracks (as the effect that goes into bass and horns will be very different).. ?

I'm headed out now but briefly in Sonar one instance of Kontakt 5 can have 16 midi channels that can be mixed out of 32 stereo audio channels.

Thanks Carl, I shall test it more on the multi outs.

There should be some options that determine how many outputs there will be. I don't have it in front of me but I think the options are 8 out (four stereo pairs), 16 Out (eight stereo pairs) and one just called Kontakt with 16 stereo pairs.

You can assign the midi channel and output channel to each instrument. If there are insufficient slots in your Kontakt mixer there is an option to add a new mixer channel when you assign the output.

A lot of people get confused initially assigning the channels of the Kontakt mixer to the DAW channels. In some cases it may say Aux 1, Aux 2 etc. When you click on this it will give you the option to send to a different output on your DAW.

I pretty sure I have seen some videos on You Tube on assigning outputs in Kontakt, probably not sonar specific but they will point you in the right direction

Kontakt will run more efficiently with multiple instruments loaded into a single Kontakt instance, as opposed to a separate instance of Kontakt for each instrument. However, there are legitimate reasons for doing the latter, the main one being that you can freeze them independently.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.
