How to start 16bit /24bit /44 or 48 Sample rate project WITHOUT changing driver settings?
My default driver settings are 24/44Khz. However I sometimes I need to work on projects at 16 bit or 48khz. To work on 16bit or 48Khz I have to change the Audio driver settings to 16 bit before creating a new project. Then I have to change it back to 24bit so my future projects are at 24bit. There must be a simpler way than this to start a new project at 16bit?

I don't think there is any shortcut for that.
SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre - Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc. The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

nop. No can do. I'm using an M-Audio delta 1010LT card and I don't see this problem with S8.5. It's, from my point of view (i'll need solid evidence to think otherwise), an X1 problem and the way the new core have been re-design. And yes I'm using the latest W7 64 bits driver for my card. M

I never have to change my driver when opening different projects of different sample rates. They all open and play just fine. Cj

Generally X1 can handle a project with different bit depths with no problems. Sample rate is a different issue for X1. In the past I converted the audio to the "right" sample rate via Sound Forge's batch ability. But I did that because it was more difficult to change the sample rate with the hardware I had at that time. From the Help file. Sampling rates SONAR supports all common sampling rates. Only one sampling rate is allowed per project. It’s usually better not to change the sampling rate of a project, because this involves exporting your tracks one at a time, and then importing them at the new sampling rate. During this process you lose clip boundaries, envelopes, and other separate data that is mixed into the exported tracks. To set the sampling rate for new projects 1. Go to Edit > Preferences > Audio - Driver Settings and change the Sampling Rate field to the desired number. You can choose from the available options, or enter any number that your hardware supports. 2. Click OK. To change the sampling rate of a project 1. Select an audio track and use the File > Export Audio command to open the Export Audio dialog box. 2. Select the options you want, and click Export to export the track. 3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 for all the audio tracks you want to convert. 4. After you have exported all the tracks you want to convert, go to Edit > Preferences > Audio - Driver Settings and change the Sampling Rate field to the desired number. 5. Use the File > New command to open a new project. 6. Use the File > Import > Audio command to open the Import Audio dialog box. 7. Select the audio files you just exported (hold down the CTRL key while you click each one), and click Open to import the files. SONAR imports the selected files at the new sampling rate. To import audio that has a different sampling rate ● Use the File > Import > Audio command to import the audio file(s) (this converts them to the project sampling rate).

Thanks for the responses. However I think I misworded my post, I have edited it now for better understanding. My problem is whenever I get to mix a new song with files (wav tracks) at 16bit or 48khz, I have to change driver settings from 24 to 16 or 44 to 48 before creating a new project. There should be an option to create a 16bit or 24bit or 44khz or 48khz without having to change audio driver settings. After all, in a studio different people bring different file formats and we should be able to start new projects at desired sample rates.

Perhaps so but wouldn't it be a driver issue and a hardware issue? Suppose you use a hardware unit that is clocked from another unit? How would X1 deal with that? Although it should be possible to change the clock in a audio device via software that doesn't mean all will allow that. X1 can handle any bit depth within the project but sample rate is really another matter.

Ideally, SONAR would ask you in the New Project dialog what settings you want to use. Sadly, it does not, and such concerns no longer seem to be where CW Marketing's priorities lie. (But hey, as long as X2 remains a distant promise we can continue to hope!) Meanwhile, just be glad you can do it from the driver's control panel. Some interfaces require you to do it from the hardware unit's front panel controls, which is even more awkward, and prone to user error.
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

☄ Helpful
Make different template-files. We digitize a lot of vinyl and tape. For differnet resolutions (44,48,96,192kHz) we have different templates. Sonar begins the project exactly with the bit-resolution of the template.
We digitize tapes, vinyl, dat, md ... in broadcast and studio quality for publishers, public institutions and individuals.4 x Intel Quad-CPU, 4GHz Sonar Platinum (Windows 10 - 64Bit) and 14 computers for recording tapes, vinyl ... 4 x RME Fireface 800, 2 x Roland Octa Capture and 4 x Roland Quad Capture, Focusrite .... I should have thought of it since I start my projects with my custom template!

Hi, I tried the templates and that didn't work for me. Where did you set the bit depth and sampling rate so it modifies each template? I tried modifying Preferences under Driver Settings and Audio data and the templates would follow the previously adjusted settings and not the ones with which they were saved. Thanks, Sergio

Even when you re-worded it, i still do not have to do that. That would be insane to do every single time. What sound card are you using. It prob needs some updating or your not using a recommended sound card Cj
