How to trigger MIDI automation

Sub Drop - Is there a way to trigger a midi event without using a midi note?
Instrument Track + VST Oscilator
Options to control the VST are setup and working, yet not triggering the audio. (freq start/end)
If a MIDI track is created there are no options related to the VST.
