How to turn off Lane Takes

I am using X3 Producer and can't figure out how to turn off lane takes. I do not use "comping" - in preferences, the record setting is "overwrite", and "create new lanes on overlap" box is not ticked. The problem is that when I re-record sections, X3 creates new lanes, and when I copy portions of a track, or do cut and pastes, some times I hear multiple takes, or material that was supposed to have been overwritten.
 
Any guidance on how to ensure that X3 producer never creates any "lanes"? If I want another track that is easy to create.

    I don't think it's possible to turn them off. It would be great if each track had a button to do it.

    The infamous take lanes... loved by so few, hated by so many...
     
    I've been with Cakewalk since pre-Sonar times, have moved to Sonar Artist from Sonar 6.0 PE. Dealing with the take lanes has been testing my nerves for almost a year now.
     
    Currently, I'm working on my band's demo. Five mics on the drums, two to four takes per song. I have put each drum take into a track folder containing five tracks... some parts were not too tight, did a bit of copying/pasting and moved some clips around.
     
    I have ended up with 13 track lanes per each drum track in a folder. 13 take lanes multiplied by 5 tracks in each drum track folder gives 65 tracks... plus five parental tracks, plus one folder track... What a mess.
     
    I would need at least ten monitors stacked vertically to see what's happening in one drum track folder. And like I said, I have up to four folders per song.
     
    Take lanes/comping is a great and very useful idea for some things, but there should be an option for disabling it altogether. What would have taken me two hours in the pre-comping times, took me 2 days in Sonar Artist.

    Another data point, the icon in track view that says "Take Lanes = Off" appears mislabeled - since (for my set up at least) it doesn't mean that the take lanes are off - they are still there causing problems, they are just hidden.
     
    Does using "Take Lanes = Off" actually turn off the take lanes for others?
     
    Does anyone know if the new Platinum version has the ability to turn off take lanes?
     
    Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
     
    By the way, I have been using Cakewalk since purchasing version 1.1d in 1988 -- you'd think I'd have this stuff figured out by now!

    As icontakt wrote in his reply, you cannot turn the take lanes off. They (cakewalk guys) have dropped the idea of working in layers altogether. Unfortunately.
     
    I can actually see the point of using take lanes. They work like a charm when you want to combine a few takes into one track.
     
    Take lanes create a lot of problems when working with track folders though.
     
    There are even more headaches when using copy/paste and moving clips within the parental track i.e. working with drum loops, which is something I do a lot.

    FWIW, the Take Lane icon on each track strip is simply to display or hide them.  
     
    For the initial problems described, I would suggest displaying take lanes on all respective tracks and then performing the same operations to see exactly what happens.  With all new takes set to Overwrite there should be no duplicate takes at all even when copy > pasting, so if there's something else going on to cause that effect, having the lanes displayed may help track it down.

    One more thing to check is the Loop Recording set it to Store Takes in Separate Tracks.
    Go to Customization>Editing Drag and Drop section and check the Ask Every Time box.
    Left click (hold) the record button make sure the overwrite selection is checked.

    Thanks for the suggestions Red4Con1 (unfortunately, I had already been using those settings).
     
    I tried Stevec's suggestion and that helps -- each time I do a recording, I check the track and delete the audio that should have been over-written.
     
    To be frank, there should be an easier way - with versions of Sonar prior to lane takes when you set your record mode to "overwrite" it did just that - in my view it should not be necessary to manually delete audio that you had intended be over written.
     
    Sorry to repeat this question - but does anyone know if this has been fixed in the newer versions (I am using X3 producer).

    I have X3e and I have tried your settings. I am getting no multiple take lanes, no matter how many times I record. (well - just the one take lane).
     
    And for every time I record, it wipes out what was there before, as I would expect with these settings. I hear nothing of the old recording and can drag the newly recorded clips away, there is nothing underneath.

    Thanks for the feedback jpetersen - that is what I would expect - I would be surprised if more than 10% of Sonar X3e users are experiencing the take lanes issue (otherwise, I think we would hear a lot more noise about it on this forum).
     
    While, unfortunately, I can't reproduce the issue at will, it seems to arise when I have had to do a lot of copying and pasting multiple tracks.  Yesterday, I found that a very simple snare track - that I had not done any "punches" into -- had data on 12 take lanes - presumably, somehow arising from cutting and pasting (never using blend old with new, but rather always "replace" or "slide over").  Instead of taking the time to clean up the track, I ended up wiping it and starting over.
     
    If anyone who has had the take lanes problem has figured out which setting (or set of actions) triggers the bug please speak up - thanks very much!!!
