How to turn off updates in Win 7

I don't think there has been much updating other than defender, and I only go on line physically and when I'm updating things other than the OS.  Any hints how to keep my Win 7 from automatically updating in the future?

    With Win 7 it is easy to go into your update settings and set it to never check, or to inform you about updates and allow you to choose downloads.  With Win 10 it becomes much more difficult, and Windows 10 Pro is really the only option to retain any control over updates.

    I thought I did do all that.  Ah, well.  I'll try again.
     
    Thanks.  I spend more time these days updating this and that on 2 separate music computers and have little time for music. ;-)

    Have you checked for update services that might be running with Task Manager?
     
    This is what it took to kill it for good on a Win10 box.
