How to upload an image to forum

I found kind of an explanation...but can't figure out how to do it.

I have an image on my computer I want to post here. The forum "Attach Images" dialog has two tabs: "Image URL" and "From Gallery/Upload". I am not sure what to do with these. The "Gallery Upload" tab tells me to "Select from and option below"...of which there are none. I tried the url tab a couple different ways, but I cannot see my image on the preview.
file:\\D:\path\image.jpg
D:\path\image.jpg
Must have the syntax wrong. Any suggestions appreciated.

I just found the "Insert/edit image" button, but still can't make it work.

You need to upload your image to a hosting site like imgur. Then copy the 'direct link' and paste that in the 'attach images - image URL' box.

Weren't we able to upload from my computer a while back? What happened?

It is now a PITA and usually not worth the effort, IMO. Craig has it down to three quick clicks I think...

Imgur is now VASTLY superior to Photobucket. PB was ok until it became totally bloated with bloody adverts.

A shame as I've got over 500 Sonar screenshots on their site.

    + 1, I have a Photobucket account, but can't bear to log-in now, it's horrible.

I've never used Photobucket. Well I think I tried it a few years ago and realized how slow and clunky it was. Imgur is the way to go. Just drag a photo to the imgur site and click upload. The links they give you even have a little button next to them to copy it to the clipboard for pasting in forums.

There are also browser extensions for uploading to imgur so that you can rehost photos you find on the internet on imgur with a right click menu command. You can also install an app which adds an "upload to imgur" option to the right click menu of any photo on your computer.
