Fleer, I missed that... could you say it again?

This is a subscription/$ service... to listen beyond the "chord" section, which is pretty worthless.

Anybody ever been able to get it to work in SONAR?  I've copied some instructional threads I've read around the Internet, but my routing still isn't getting me anywhere.

I have a request for help in the main SONAR forum, so won't duplicate here.  I've routed midi generators before, but just not getting anywhere with this one.

I use it a bit. You need to have it and your VST on separate midi tracks. Route the input on your VST as Cthulhu and make sure input echo is on. Select Cthulhus track and play. You should then hear it coming through.

This thread may be of help :  http://forum.cakewalk.com/Setting-up-an-appegiator-plugin-in-Sonar-m3341576.aspx

It refers specifically to Kirnu and BlueARP arpeggiators but the setup should be the same.

I have a request for help in the main SONAR forum, so won't duplicate here.  I've routed midi generators before, but just not getting anywhere with this one.

Here's a little something I cobbled together.

How To Setup Cthulhu in SONAR
1. From the Insert menu, choose: Soft Synth > VST2 > Cthulhu

In the dialog box that pops up, tick:  Midi source, synth track folder, first synth audio out, enable midi output, synth property page, recall assignable controls. Then click OK

2. Next Insert whatever soft synth you would like Cthulhu to play.  I'll use True Pianos Cakewalk as an example, but you can use any: Insert > Soft synth > VST2 > True Pianos Cakewalk.

In the dialog box that pops up, tick: MIDI source, Synth track folder, First synth audio output, Synth property page, recall assignable controllers. Enable MIDI out does not need to be ticked. Now click OK.

You now have 2 folders, both containing a MIDI track and a synth track.

3. In the synth folder (True Pianos in this example), select the MIDI track. From the input drop down menu, choose your keyboard input. Now play some notes to make sure you have sound. Now from the same dropdown menu, change the input to Cthulhu 1 > MIDI Omni. You have now routed the output of Cthulhu to your soft synth.

4. IMPORTANT! MAKE SURE THAT THE INPUT ECHO BUTTON IS ACTIVE (BLUE) ON BOTH THE MIDI TRACK IN THE Synth FOLDER, AND THE MIDI TRACK IN THE Cthulhu FOLDER.

5.  Select the MIDI track in the Cthulhu folder. Make sure its input is set to your keyboard in MIDI Omni mode using the drop down input menu.

6. If the Cthulhu VST property page isn't already open, click on its synth track icon to open it. You will see on the page a drop down entitled Chord Presets. Click on it and choose any preset. Now play a single note on the keyboard (still with the MIDI track in the Cthulhu folder selected, but with the Input Echo button activated on both MIDI tracks). You should hear the chosen arpeggio play. Note that you will also hear a tone generated by Cthulhu. This can be turned off using the speaker icon in its VST property page.

Now that you have it working, select both folders and the tracks using control-click, right click on the blue highlighted section of any of the selected tracks and choose "save as track template" from the dropdown menu and give it any name you like.

Next time you want to load it, just right click in empty space below your last track and choose 'insert from track template', then the name you saved. This will load both the soft synth and Cthulhu and set up all of the inputs and outputs for you. You just click on the Cthulhu MIDI track and play away!

Easiest Daw for set up in is Mixcraft.   FL Studio has Riff Machine, Reason has tools, Live probably has something.  Most synths have arps.  Always create your own midis or even buy them.

I probably have the resources and not use financial resources.

It was worth the $11 extra instead of Cthulhu.   It seems like the challenge is getting it set up and working.  Even this 3rd party tutorial is a fail in this area.  Wonder why Groove3 and MacProVideo hasn't touched this yet.

This is the secret to setting up Cthulhu in Sonar.  It's not hard!  But don't tell anybody though.  Somebody needs to keep making videos ...

1. Just add two simple instrument tracks: Your synth and Cthulhu.
2. Set your Keyboard controller as the MIDI input to Cthulhu.
3. Set Cthulhu as the MIDI input for your synth (Enable MIDI output should already be enabled in the Cthulhu VST settings).
4. Activate Input Echo = On for both tracks. Done!

I think that did it.  People who tried to make videos sucked at it.  No sound with notepad = sucks. Videos with sound had piss poor voice overs = sucked.  You would think people with some DAW sense would edit the audio on their videos.

Developer needs better documentation in setup.  Not sure I want to buy this yet.

Well, with all due respect to the developers, all the clues needed are in the documentation.  All that is required is some fundamental understanding of track routing in one's chosen DAW.

I used the original manual (which had less info than the revised manual) and I had no problems getting Cthulhu up and running in just a few minutes.
Not really sure why anyone is struggling with it... the Cthulhu author even runs a forum and he can assist anyone having issues.
I still want to check out Tracktion Waveform - just need to find some time...

After watching videos and trying again and again, somewhere I found information about the Simple Instrument Track that got me going. Abacab has it right. Try it. Cthulhu is a really powerful program. You will have to learn it. Just like Sonar, to get the most out of it, you got to dig in!
