How's HS6 in Win7?
I'm probably going to be upgrading my computer sometime this year. I'm currently running Home Studio 6XL on a dual core Athlon system I built back in 2006. I didn't upgrade to HS7 since HS6 does everything I need it to and HS7 sounded like it wouldn't really be an upgrade. With the new build, I'll be moving to Win7, probably 64bit, so I'm wondering if chances are my copy of HS6 will be content or if I'm opening myself up to a world of headaches. HS6 runs okay, but not 100% glitch free on my current system so I feel an upgrade could make things run smoother as long as everything is compatible. I'll be migrating my Emu 1820m audio interface to the new system too so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn't have trouble with the beta drivers for Win7. thanks, Dan

I've heard people have had problems with EMU devices in win7x64. bad enough that some people have sold them on ebay in favor of something with better drivers for that OS. SHS6 will probably be fine wiht a few exceptions. it depends on how you work and what features/tools you use. I'm pretty sure most DX plugins or synths will not work correctly because I don't think they updated any of them for 64bit until version 7 and even then they only did a handful. so it's possible that some of your plugins or softsynths won't work. VST plugins and softsynths SHOULD all work OK, but I can't promise it. there are several people I know of that have reported here on the forums that they are using SHS6 on Win7x64 perfectly fine.

I chose to load the 32-bit version so all my plug-ins will work. You'll need to read up on the 'running as administrater' thing first, or you won't be able to use it for too long. If you currently have Vista, you know about that already.

Greg and Beagle, Thanks for the replies. I'm still in XP so I wasn't aware of the "running as administrater" thing. That'll be good to keep in mind. Greg, when you say you loaded the 32bit version so that plugins would work, do you mean the 32bit windows 7 or 32bit Home Studio? Dan

he means the 32bit version of SHS6. you should have a choice of loading either on a 64bit system.

One thing that is not clear to me yet, does the 64bit version of Windows 7 include the 32bit version as well? If I want to install both and dual boot, do I need to buy two copies of Windows 7? It sounds like some of my vst's may not work at all in the 64bit version of Windows 7 (notably Emulator X2). Dan

no, you have to purchase 32bit or 64bit version of windows 7. I don't know anything about Emulator X2 so I don't know if it will work or not.
