How's the Catawba this week fellas?

Tomorrow morning I'm heading straight to the Mt. Pisgah National Park Campground and intend to make day trips up to Mt. Mitchell State Park in search of the Rhododendron catawbiense

We usually head up there just before school gets out to beat the crowds, and that is usually 2 weeks too early for the mountain top Catawba display.

This year our schedule got mixed up and we may be heading up at just the right time for the flowers.

Has any one bit up there in the past week or two? How's it looking?

best,
mike

Can't make it this year. I have not made it out in any year past, either. Not likely I'll make it anytime in the future.

When I were a lad we used to gather catawba worms for fishing bait...best thing going.

Plus, Mount Pisgah is a favorite name of mine it sounds just orful.

If I find anything I'll bring back some photos.

    :-)

The best part about going up there this time of year is that the waterfalls feel just right when you hop in for a swim.

    BTW, here's the place: http://goo.gl/maps/sIlZ

    I'm not there yet.

We like being up on the actual Blue Ridge because the temperatures are cool and mild and there seems to be no biting insects to harass you while you relax in the forest.

I get so relaxed I start going around sock less.
