    That's my sisters name.

    :-)

It seems worth while to remind people that a East Coast hurricane usually floods the uplands and hills behind the coast with excessive rain.

Most interest will focus on the coast, the surf and the wind... until the mudslides start up in the hills.

Keep that in mind if you live in the hills.

    Good luck.

    Best regards,
    mike

Areas which do not get this sort of storm hit very often are generally not as prepared as areas that do... so if you live in the path of this storm..... batten down  the hatches and get plenty of gasoline for the generators and chain saws and be sure to get food and water as well... and stay safe.

Thanks guys. It looks as if we are either going to be in the eye or very close. The generator is ready .Everything outside is either tied down or moved inside. The electric company already called and advised that we can have a week outage if the power fails. Not much else we can do. Mon. and Tues will likely be tough. We are fortunate to be 100 miles from the shore even though the eye will pass either close or over us once the hurricane makes ground.Being over 500ft above sea level helps too.

I took the opportunity Sat. to plant some grass seed.I figured we might as well get something good from it ;)

Thanks Danny and the rest for your prayers and well wishes. You have mine as well.

Understandably the storm is a big thing in the media right now. My local network seems to be glued to the subject almost non stop. The media hype has made a few people worry far more than they needed to. The actual storm isn't supposed to  impact us until late Monday. The news has put my wife into a panic. From looking at the goings on here the same thing is happening with a lot of other people. Sometimes I wish we didn't have TV. It gets people too riled up. It's nice to know theres a storm coming and to plan for it but I can do without the media hype really. I think it's all about their ratings. The election was getting old anyhow.Information overload tends to overload some people.

If we loose power or if things flood or if the house blows in we will deal with it. I'm not about to worry myself to death over it. I went to work today and my wife was worried sick and didn't want me to go in. As it turns out there is a little rain and some wind, so what? Tonight when things get worse I'll do what I can and pray about the rest. Play the hand I'm dealt with no worries. I think I get more annoyed by the worrying than I do about the actual storm lol.

Good attitude, Starise.  I have family and friends in NJ. From what I've heard so far, they're not in worry mode, either.  They've had plenty of warning and they've been getting ready.  Not much need to worry if you're prepared.  They're near the coast but not right on it, so they don't have to worry about storm-surge and high tides.

Still, it doesn't hurt to send out prayers and best wishes to all of you--so that's what I'm doing. Good luck.

Down in Trenton here and as prepped as we can be, hoping the storm drains will take the flow away. That's one of my biggest worries, especially if the power goes out. If that happens oh boy. We can still cook on the gas cooktop using a spark igniter or matches to light the flame. Just hate losing all the food we've got in the freezer section of the fridge. Being retired doesn't make replacing things easy.

Strange thing is I have a couple of things in the shipping pipeline which are due for delivery today & tomorrow. Today's is coming via FEDEX and the tracking status says it's on the vehicle for delivery. The other is coming UPS and due tomorrow - don't think that will happen (it's a new computer).

I know I don't come around all that much but just had to chime in here. Everyone, not just in NJ stay safe and get to high ground if you're even close to water.

Anyone in the effected areas (whoa what a freaking enormous widespread area) please take extra care.... this is massive, a record buster!! . My thoughts goes out to you all. For my area being much further north west; a little rain and snow later in the week is expected.

The predictions were spot on for the storm track. It was one heck of a powerful wind here. I fully expected to loose my electricity but I still have both my cable and my power today. I am clearly in the minority here not sure why. I went outside and nothing seems to be blown off the house, only  twigs, sticks and lots of leaves laying around.

I feel very fortunate and gratefully underwhelmed. Lots of places very close to me are experiencing loss of power, flooding and fallen trees. Many of the friends on my wifes Facebook have posted pictures of fallen trees and flooding.

My wife wouldn't go upstairs last night because of the super loud howling of the wind she was afraid we might get a tree in the house. I went upstairs, turned on a fan to drown the noise and went to sleep.Probably not the smartest thing to do but I was tired.

I hope/pray Danny and those guys in Jersey are ok today. The closer you are to the Jersey shore the worse things seemed to be as obviously lower areas were more prone to flooding and those directly on the beach were most open to the direct assault of the storm. Our winds here were probably in the 50mph range with higher gusts possible. Closer to the shore the winds were much higher.
