Hymns with a twist

I recorded these pretty much in one sitting in around Oct of 2011. I had considered adding orchestral backing to them, but decided on just straight piano tracks because I was looking for a simple feel to the music, although I did add some light strings on the first tune.

I picked some of the more common traditional tunes and added a little bit to them here and there, but for the most part they are all structurally close to the originals. Instead of breaking the track up into individual songs I decided to make a track of all of them resulting in a  21 minute track.

I think I might be all pianoed out for awhile so the next thing might be totally different.  I  had relaxation and meditation in mind when I decided to put these out there,so if your looking for short and lively this isn't it lol.

Nice performance.  These hymns are nice to listen to as background music.  It does promote a calming effect.  Well done.

You should have an all female choir sing with this? And you could call it, "Hymns and Hers." I love Christmas music, good job.

All you need is love, just ask the Beatles?

    Lynn- Thanks for your comments.

Bandontherun-lol, yes hymns and hers. FWIW this is not Christmas music. It is a collection of 10 or so individual hymns.

Do you think I should break these up into individual tracks? I recorded them all together but 21 minutes is a long track unless a person is commuting and doesn't want to touch the dial.

Yery nice and relaxing. I will admit I did not listen to the whole track, because I
just didn't have the time. I will say I liked the hymn that started at about 4:58.
This reminded my of my mother who past last year. One of her favorite things to do was to sit at her
organ and play hymns, and I listened alot. Thanks for the happy thought this gave to me.

Enjoyed it.  I think sometimes the less the better.  The straight piano works for me.

Some very interesting and nice interpretations there, Tim.  I'm impressed!  Whether you keep it as one long track or not depends on what you want to do with it I suppose.  I wonder what this would sound like with a bit of a bump at about 1K to warm up the piano sound a tad?  I know (cause I've had it beat into me!) that a piano needs to be eq'd high when in a band, but when it's solo I love to hear the rich, full sound.  But it's quite nice like this.  Really great playing!

Splendid dynamics going on here with the piano dominant.

Lets see; I recognize a couple: "Mighty Fortress" by Martin Luther a fav of mine ... and you dealt it a solid bulwark, IMHO.

Ah: "Holy Holy" with an oriental harp-like performance.

"Sweet Hour of Prayer" with a similar performance.

    "?????" but utterly lovely

    " " "

"It is well with my soul" very faithfully delivered

    "?????" but heavenly

"Sweet By & By" ... a delicious pre-outro ... which you've played in a higher octave in portions

"Standing on the Promises" (which I always play in Bb) ... I'll probably play this eve with your solid forceful feel velocities.

Utmost excellence here ... should you decide to make hymns with words, I'm pretty sure Reece, or, definitely I myself, will beckon to sing for you.  Should you ever invite me to lisp and stammer, I'll probably add a Heavenly Kid or 2.

notnat-Thanks for your comments. Thanks for listening.

Thatsastrat- I fully understand. These tracks might be tough to listen to if this isn't your kind of thing.I appreciate your comments here. I think one reason I played these was because of the memories. Thanks for listening

Berean- Thanks for listening and for commenting.I was very tempted to add something else. I was one who ordered the Kirk Hunter strings over Christmas, but than it might get too busy. Thanks for listening.

Janet- I am thinking of uploading these sepratly to another site,so I am thinking at some point of pulling them apart. I will try some more EQ in that region to see what happens!I appreciate your compliments, and thanks for listening to the tracks!

Philip- I appreciate your comments and observations. I would love to work with you guys sometime. It would be fun!

Ohgrant- Thanks for your comments and for listening to these.

Beagle- Thanks for your comments.Loved what you recently posted..great stuff!

What a beautiful sound.  Gorgeous performance.  I have always loved the piano, I just happen to kinda suck at it.

Nice work - cool, calming music to have on in the background while I remove another virus from a customer's computer.
