I Am Curious About Posting Your Sonar Recordings

Why wouldn't someone post links to recordings and collabs they've done here on the forums? This question has always puzzled me. Seems like it's the reason we have Sonar and visit the Songs Forum. I admit I have only posted around 10 tunes of just me but have post three times as many collaborations though out the years. Most of my stuff doesn't have a lot of midi and some are just solo guitar recordings. I would have posted more but health problems keep interfering with that process. I plan to post more if the forums are still around for that. I love what I have heard here and it's been a real pleasure checking out all the music. 

I've posted a few of my experiments and of course Ed and have done everything from silly to pretty durned heavy but the past 8 months or so I've been hunkering down with all things I've learned to polish off an unfinished album of my old band. It was/is completely ganked so it's been a TON of ultra tedious mapping, corrections, editing, etc.
 
THEN there is the whole matter of "relearning" and practising my parts (just totally frantic speed stuff that was a buttload easier to pull off as healthy young man than it is now) as well as writing/practicing quality bass and rhythm guit parts WITHOUT losing the actual feel/sound of the original rhythm section... which was a huge part of our sound. It's just those performances from the OG members were way too sloppy for a good studio album.
 
At this point I have gotten most everything written and can play it all the way I like as well as found the most complimentary track/mix config. eg: I was gonna do doubles of the rthm guits but realized since the lead guit is also doing a rhythm part (but a different one that slips in and out of little frilly francy's and solos) it sounded more raw/powerful and, most importantly, like the original band when I just have the two going and mucking with the panning as needed. I've also come up with wacky solutions to weight the guits so when the lead guit jumps up into the higher freqs some of the rhythm gets fed to opposite stereo channel to make up for the drop in low mid volume. There's going to need to be some automation to pull it off but of course I'll save that for the end. Right now it's just like I'm jamming with a really tight version of the band which is great for tracking.
 
If my goddamned back would quit being an arse and I could find a decent doctor this would be moving along MUCH quicker. Maybe that's how the universe wants it done though. Me forced to spend less time in front of the DAW spazzing out and more time contemplating exactly what will make this bugger sound the way I want.

I only comment on songs I've been invited to comment on because I think my earballs and general tastes in production styles are a bit specific and perhaps a little odd. I find I just end up spewing a bunch of little things that are (subjectively) mucking things up and considering the superior talent we have here my input isn't necessary in many cases and can come of as cold, overly critical and perhaps jerky.
 
Besides. My "expertise" lies mostly in the creation of heavy music with lots of guits and although we do seem to be getting more and more of a "heavy" oriented crowd over the years (or they're just coming out of their metal closets) most of the stuff posted just isn't in my wheelhouse and I am unqualified to properly critique anyway.
 
For example... for pop/dancey type stuff the best answer I can give is "do what Quincy Jones would". That of course is great advice IMO but probably a little bit outdated to how those genres (and the tech used) have evolved to the present day.

Once it evolved into the 'mastering' forum instead of the 'songs' forum, I stopped going there.
I can write songs, good or bad, but I can't master the mastering.

I just go to listen and give my amateur 1.5 cents worth (the opposite end of the mastering spectrum....tell em what us mere mortals hear ).
 
I keep it simples, be honest, and for mastering I use Ozone 7's presets. :))
