I Believe- by Scandalous Grace
It's been a while...but here is the latest song that we have been working on. This was a complete rewrite from an older song that I wrote. The verse lyrics remain the same, though have been rearranged. The chorus lyrics, chords and arrangement are completely different. Here is who is playing what on the song. Sean.... electric rhythm, end solo, BG Vocals. Reece.... B3, BG Vocals. Mike......Bass, electric rhythm, intro solo and middle solo, Lead Vocals, Drum Programming. All comments and suggestions are welcome. Hope you all enjoy. I Believe https://soundcloud.com/michaeljhanson/i-believe

Good tune. Appears we got us a 'Praise Band" and a good one! Good harmonies on the "I believe in you". Tight. Instruments are well done. This is a well done tune. It's a good collab, as usual. Michael, the guitar solos are well done.

Great tune guys! I like that it doesn't sound so "cookie cutter" as other songs in this genre do. Nice original sounds...or at least more of a classic rock taste than modern "Praise and Worship" music. I think Michael has a unique vocal style that adds interest to the song. The main thing that stuck out to me as a nit in the whole mix was starting around 1:15 you have a great guitar tone but it seems to be too much in my right channel. I would pan that over more center unless I could somehow compliment it on the left side with something else.

Thank you greatly Starise for listening to this tune and offering your advice. I appreciate that you like this tune at that you like my unique vocal style in this song. I have struggled vocally for years, but seem to finally be finding my voice. As far as guitar in the right channel, I believe you are correct....mostly. There is also a Strat playing a clean rhythm in the Left channel, it was the original rhythm track to song. I have had to raise it several notches already to not be out done by Sean's gorgeous tone in the Right channel. I think Sean has a flange effect or something on his clean tone. What ever he did to get that tone, it cuts through the mix effortlessly. It sounds like I need to raise my clean Strat rhythm up a couple notches yet to balance the 2 out. I want to keep the 2 guitars panned mostly left and right because Reece's B3 in stereo takes up 50% left and right in the mix. Again, thanks for helping us out with this tune Starise....sounds like we almost have it nailed.

I really liked this. The melody is very catching. The mix sounds really big on my speakers - good job on the top to bottom. I would say the vocal is too compressed and needs more warmth. Seems a bit brittle and thin. I really like the guitar tones. Good drums and bass!

Hey Jimmy, Thanks for listening and commenting Brother. I'm very encouraged by two of the things you have mentioned. One being how big the mix sounds on your speakers. The other, that you noticed the drums and the Bass. Drums are your expertise, so it is really good to hear that you like them. However, the Bass was really a favorite part of this song for me. I just love the rolling/walking style of Bass that came out of this song. Again....I greatly appreciate the listen and you taking the time to comment.

Good tune and overall excellent performances. So far as the mix goes: all's well, though I have to agree with Jimmy that the vocals could definitely benefit from a warmer tone, particularly in the choruses.

Clint, The guitar tones that I have on this all come from Amplitube on this song. I am using some Paul Rose presets, the amp model is the Custom Modern High-gain on about medium gain. Sean uses TH2 for his guitar tones. The bass is one of the SVT Ampeg tones in Amplitube. I have actually already sold the H & K. It had a little bit too modern of a sound for me. I picked up this Classic 20 head below instead. I need a cabinet for it yet. I've been playing it either through my 410 combo using the speaker cabinet or head phones, silently. I tried to do a little recording with it, direct out through its speaker simulator and it sounds pretty good. Sounds even better when you put it through a speaker simulator. It will show up on one of the band songs eventually. I like this little amp head a lot. Its very similar to my Classic 50w combo, but 20w, 5w, 1w, or silent for recording or head phones. Very handy. I assume that you are using S-Gear still on "Sara".

Yep, That's S-Gear, but I still like Amplitube a lot. I like my HD500X and DT25 too. The sims are great when it comes time to mix and you need to make some tweaks for the mix.
