I Found My ProChannel View Problem; It's Me, I Think
I've been mildly frustrated about not being able to see the elements of ProChannel that I'm most interested in, the EQ and Compressor, in a single, default window. I found it concerning that I had to shrink my beloved EQ in order to see the compressor, while leaving elements that I have no use for, Tube Saturation and Routing available and in full view. I also found it to be an issue that I would have to hide the Control Bar, which I use the heck out of. If I might be allowed to dream, I would like to see options in the ProChannel/Display/ProChannel Module Menu to select what modules I need displayed, making it a user-configurable ProChannel. Another approach might be to make ProChannel movable within its frame, as that would seemingly solve everything. It would matter not to me whether it employed a slider or a click-n-drag feature, as long as I could easily get to the tools I needed. In hopes of finding resolution to my problem, I searched the forum here, again. Although there wasn't a lot of discussion about it, I ultimately was able to deduce that I actually created the problem by attempting to use a 16:9 ratio monitor. (Even at the maximum setting of 1600x900, the problem exists) My dilemma now is, do I wait for a possible software fix, or do I head out with a couple hundred bucks and get a "normal" LCD monitor?? What's a guy to do?? We've seen some great fixes in X1 b & c. Maybe I should wait for the release of X1d. Considering that 16:9 users might be in the extreme minority....anyone care to give an opinion on whether this might ever be addressed???

A new monitor is always going to be a nice addition. One thing is that all programs will present themselves better. I don't see how one can loose. Your only question is how big to go?

Bigger monitors is always a good investment. And it really doesn't need to be expensive. I just bought from eBay last week a mint condition Dell 2000FP at 1600x1200 native resolution for £30, to pair up with the one of the same model I got about to years ago for £90. These things were over a grand when they were new.

That aside, though, yeah, I think the ability to show / hide the different modues is an obvious good feature. There's nothing fundamental about X1 that couldn't be made small-screen friendly.

Sad thing is, this is not a small monitor, or is it?? It's a 20" (508mm) diag widescreen with a 1600x900 res. The minimum res for X1 is 1280x800. Why can I not see everything when my resolution clearly exceeds the requirement?? For those of you who can see everything on ProChannel, are you using 4:3 or 16:9 or 16:10 monitors? Maybe my view is goffed up for a different reason..??

Just how much is cut off? I'll bet it the difference between 900 and 1080.

1920x1080 here. Almost everything is visible - all of pro-channel is there, but still missing three modules off the control bar. My 1280x800 laptop on the other hand..... Somewhere on this forum is a post that gave an indication of the screens the developers were using. Larger than my "full HD", and generally two of them. Which may explain a lot about the amount of space the gui needs....
Sonar Platinum 64bit, Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit, I7 3770K Ivybridge, 16GB Ram, Gigabyte Z77-D3H m/board, ATI 7750 graphics+ 1GB RAM, 2xIntel 520 series 220GB SSDs, 1 TB Samsung F3 + 1 TB WD HDDs, Seasonic fanless 460W psu, RME Fireface UFX, Focusrite Octopre. Assorted real synths, guitars, mandolins, diatonic accordions, percussion, fx and other stuff.

Are you thinking that 1080 is the magic number? For some reason, the forum won't let me browse to the screen dump I made.... I can see up to about 3/4 of the the compressor knobs, and nothing above. If I delete the control bar, I can see up to about half of the compressor meter.

BTW, John. I did the math on 900 vs 1080 and the resulting deficit is around 1.96 inches. To no one's surprise, that's what's chopped off the top of my ProChannel. Good call! I guess I'm not sure I understand why CW would say the minimum required resolution is 1280x800, when that does not allow the entire view to be shown. Maybe along with a minimum res, there should be an "Ideal Resolution" given. I can only say this; we, as audio engineers (I use that term very loosely in my case) find it imperative to test our mixes in various equipment, ranging from mp3 players to boom boxes to car stereos to great sounding systems, just to be sure it "works" as well as possible everywhere. My belief is that we would be shirking our responsibilities if we didn't conduct those tests...... That's all I'm going to say about that..

I broke dawn and got a new monitor, 1920x1080 LED. I see everything now. That is, the full ProChannel and the full width of the control bar. It's still a shame that X1 Pro isn't configurable to work in a 1600x900 format. That wipes out a mess of atta-boys...

I use the C command to hide the command bar at the top. Then I can see more of the interface.

Two monitors is the key to happiness with X1.

I like the benefit of using my laptop with extended displays; my laptop screen is only capable of 1600x900, but when I use my laptops HDMI output going to my 23 inch extended LED screen, I have 1920x1080, and two monitors to share the visuals. Its otherwise annoying to work with a tiny laptop display.
