I Know You're Up To It (major overhaul)

So.... this is my remake of the song Frank (Notnat) posted.... Since he invited me to post it...I will... with Kudos to Frank's superb version. I was gonna wait a week or so..... but here it is...

Imogen Heap on the vocals.....

This was a fun project..... I worked up all new tracks and pulled a few ideas and guitar clips from the old one.... but this is a pretty major update from the version I had originally.

new link>>>  http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=11903190

enjoy it..... a bit of smooth jazz

This sounds like it was a Heap o fun! :-) She has a very distinctive voice. Great version and mix Herb. I would have gotten a bit more aggressive w/the Sax, but "everybody" is a producer :-)

Watched a program about Imogen and she sings with Jeff Beck on a DVD I have.

Great take Herb sounds good here, she does does have a sweet voice.

Thanks for helping the X2 install go by a little easier.

Great work Herb... this really sounds fine...
It's interesting how many variations of chord progressions, and arrangements you can do with the same vocal line...
I wonder if she ever put a version on an album?

Wookie... thanks... if that helped with the X2 install and made it go easier... mayhap I should sell it no?

Frank... thanks... I suppose the variation would be pretty numerous.  there were over 500 entries to the original project, and I'm thinking they were all different to one degree or another.....  I followed her on twitter for a time and she never finished that thing.... but with 500 songs to listen to....and all based on the same vocal track..... I can understand why it never got finished. I could not imagine taking the time to listen to 500 versions of the same melody.....

Nice mix Herb.  Maybe put a guitar harmony on that sax, that might be cool.  I thought the guitar could have the highs rolled off just a tad, but I always lean toward warmer.

Maybe some guitar harmony on her scat..ala G. Benson.

    Hi Herb,
     Everything sounds great.

     The overall vibe is super.

The arrangement and mix reflects your experience. Everything seems to be supporting everything else.

     The craftsmanship is top notch.

... and it's a real solid song to boot.

Thanks a bunch for sharing... it's so nice to hear stuff here that sounds better than most of the stuff on the radio.

     all the best,
    mike

Hi Herb, great stuff!. Imogen's voice is definitely stellar.  It's hard to get good stuff on the radio today, but, as Mike said, this is definitely due to go there mate. If only the real talent got as much chance, like in the past.. too many wannbes with the right look these days.

Tony , thanks for the listen.  Long story short...Imogen was supposed to listen to the songs...choose 10 that she liked best,  and release them on a CD. I never heard of it happening.... 500+ versions of the same song is a lot to slog through.... who has that kind of time? So I think it never got done.

Very pretty, Herb.  I didn't think it was the same song until the vocal started.  As I said, I've heard Frank's version so many times I didn't think I'd like anything else too much.  I do like this though!

    Daryl.... thank you for listening

Warren... yeah..  it's the same vocal tracks.   If you read the comments above, Imogen released these tracks and asked people to compose their own take on the music...over 500 people did so.  Some were quite well done..... most were electronica versions trying to be cool rather than composing music for the tracks.  Glad you like it.
