Going broke one no brainer at a time. I really must have no brain.... I can surely relate to the G.A.S. (Gear Acquisition Syndrome) malady. My disk drives are jammed with useless purchases that seemed like great deals at the time. My only salvation is I'm too poor to buy everything I might want. What continues to astound me are the numerous online testimonials to the greatness of mediocre, limited or even outright bad products. I guess once you've been suckered it's hard to admit you've been taken in by marketing. Here's a question for you all...what products (hardware or software) have you bought that you would rather have the money back for, perhaps to be better spent on, say, a meal?

Cake ran a few really good deals..... Dim Le & GPO bundled ($20) and Session Drummer ($10).... bought them both. I like Dim Le but never used GPO ...didn't like the sounds too much ..... and Session Drummer..... what do I need with another drummer? I never used it... no I stand corrected..... I used it to power a kick drum track once upon a time...one time.... I didin't mind buying them cause they are cake products and it helped cake keep the lights on for 10 minutes.....

It may not be 100% reliable, but a quick search on "Crysonic" quickly reveals a pattern of dissatisfaction with that vendor over many months' time. Unfortunately, KVR didn't help me when I bought the Lyrical Distortion library. Everyone at KVR was caught up in group-buy fever and so enthralled by the low price that no one bothered to ask if it was any good.

Slate VCC (but I'll keeps me FG-X), and I can get three really good meals for that one. Electronic EZX Dim Pro (since I ended up getting it with bundled in 8.summin' Pro) Amplitube 3 (but I'll keep all the other Amplitubes) That's almost $600 wasted right there.

I definitely regret Diminsion Pro, I hardly ever use it. I also regret Rapture a bit, I like it, but it crashes a lot. I also never really use Reactor (part of Komplete 5) but use Battery a pretty good amount, and starting to use Kontact more One of the ones I use the most is Z3ta, it's still a great synth.

Hey Charlie, I'm not a synth guy either - at least, not a "synthy" synth guy - so consequently I let z3ta+ lie dormant for years before finally dragging it out and giving it a go. To my surprise, it's turned out to actually be useful. I've used it quite a lot over the past few months. Don't be put off by the unimpressive presets. You have to do your own tweaking.

My worst purchase was not a end of line cheapie but a new release, the now defunkt Native Instruments '57 organ. It was inferior to the much older B4 II and the more recent Vintage Organs. As I already had B4 II is was a real "what were you thinking" impulsive purchase. NI did make a upgrade path availabel to Vintage Organs which will have compensated some buyers but I was entitled to that anyway as a B4 owner. Of the "no brainer" deals I have not had much use out of my Steven Slate EX, it's an excellent product, but I always seem to gravitate to EZ or Superior Drummer. I am very glad I bought it though, for a start its there when I need it or tire of Toontrack's sounds and it gave me opertunity to crossgrade to the full version of Kontakt at a very good price when NI was running a half price cross grade deal. Another is AAS String Studio, Again I don't think this is a bad product but I have not found much use for it yet. I assume the negative comments about Lyrical Distortion mainly refer to their larger sample libraries rather than the $19 select guitars and basses?I picked up most of them for a really stupid price when they had a "one weekend only" deal on. I am sure they had made a mistake in the way the discount was calculated, the total price was dropping as you bought more. I find an occasional use for them and like Smoke Bass in particular.

Here's a question for you all...what products (hardware or software) have you bought that you would rather have the money back for, perhaps to be better spent on, say, a meal? Lately no products. I've learned to keep things simple. I've got SONAR + Rapture I've got Reason I've got KOMPLETE I've got Garritan JABB I've got BIAB for practicing guitar. That's enough too keep me busy and learning for years. So no more purchases except for upgrades. I recently had to re-install my DAW, and was busy for days. It is too time consuming to reinstall countless plugings, opening older projects, discovering that you forgot to reinstall a pluging or a library, searching where you stored the plugin and the activation code, etc. You would need Software Asset Management Software for that alone. You can loose youself in countless libraries, refills and plugins. Here's a question for you. Have you tried every synth you have curerntly installed and every preset that comes with it?

Here's a question for you. Have you tried every synth you have curerntly installed and every preset that comes with it? Of course not every synth (or FX) will work for every project. And a lot of times you might no this without having to go through every sound. I would say many synths have a "sound" for many/most of their presets and sometimes they blend well together, other times not. For people like me that mainly use presets (with some slight tweaks) I really look for sounds that make me want to write music. Except for the basic 303 sounds etc, I just don't know enough to always get the sound I want.

I agree with Glyn.....AAS String Studio is interesting, but has been collecting virtual dust and haven't really found any use for it. Possibly have to expand my musical horizons to appreciate it's artificial sounds. NI's Prizm is quite good and it's run through Reaktor, so I tend to use both.

hmm, I've been using both on a regular basis. I'm with you Kroneborge. There are certainly a few EZX kits I wish I had never bought (even at $39), but overall I find those to be great programs that serve a purpose well. I'm not trying to argue with DKE on that comment - the opinion is more than fair, I'm just a little surprised

Reason 2 then Reason 2.5 then Reason 3 but went no further as in the x64 world it is redundant.....I might get on the Propellerheads ride again if [when?] they go x64 but until then it just feels like wasted cash. Another that I wonder why I ever bothered was Wusikstation... It wasn't expensive but I could've had a lovely Methi Gusht Jalfrezi with Mushroom Rice and a Garlic Naan and got change for what I paid for it. Crikey - now I am hungry!
