That was in fact an Aussie band called the Beatnix. from the 80's they are (that's right they are still performing today) among the best of the tribute bands.

I know one of the guys that played with them, Blake Morrison who came from a long family history of musician ship, his father being a pre-eminent jazz musician. Blake himslef also playted and taught classicla and flamenco guitar and to this day is still the proprietor of a Music Store funnily enough called Blake's music in Windsor, a small rural town on the western outskirt of Sydney.

I remember going into that shop in '86, and buying my first chorus pedal from that guy...8)...

I also saw them play somewhere, I was living in Sydney for 6 months at the time...good band...

The Money or the gun, was a comedy type show, hosted by Andrew Denton, there was a CD released of all these different band styles, doing "stairway to heaven" including styles like, beatles, elvis, etc etc...Rolf Harris even did one...

    funny stuff....

Not quiet correct. The Money Or The Gun featured different acts each week performing Stairway To Heaven. The Beatnix did the Beatles-type version. There was an Australian Doors tribute band, and Rolf Harris with his wobbleboard doing a Tie Me Kangaroo Down parody.

I believe it was a condition of being on the show that you had to do a cover of Stairway to Heaven so there was a different performer doing it every week. They even released an album from the show, "Stairways to Heaven" that contained all of the perfromances from the series. It has some interesting renditions on it. The Rolf Harris version is interesting. Apparently he and his band had never heard the song so they got hold of the sheet music and played it their own way. It was such a success for Rolf that he went on to release an album of pop/rock covers.
