I Went Nuts!!
 Early Xmas for me, I guess...I couldn't resist. 58 MIJ reissue. Like when I were a lad. Wail shoot...I tried to attach a photo. I've got it at Photobucket. What's the best way to make it show up?

Yeah...from '54 - '65 it was small.
At the end of 65 to went to the big head until 1980 and during that year went back to the small.

That could be... he was well known as a b-esser. I took him at his word because I didn't know much about the history of guitars back then. Don't know much more about it now.

It was about 67-68, if memory serves, when CBS...yup, THAT CBS...bought Fender and immediately started mucking about. Many players of today think that the larger headstock was made to give the guitar greater sustain. And a great number of 70s and later players actually prefer it. But the sole reason for the big headstock was they could put a bigger logo decal on the guitar. Pure marketing. Perhaps that's a 68...could very well be. EDIT...just checked...like Spacey said it was actually 65/66 when the change was made.
