I accidentally left my body at home
I didn't realize it at first. My alarm went off as usual and I reluctantly got up. I went through my usual morning routine in the typical distracted manner. I went outside, scraped the ice off of my windshield, and started driving to work. I usually become aware of my surroundings after about a half an hour on the road. Imagine my surprise when I glanced in the mirror and saw that my body was missing. I'm used to having my subconscious mind wander off. It's like that, you know. Having my consciousness go to work while my lazy body sprawled under the covers and relaxed irritated me. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to turn around and go back to get it. I drove on to the office and went inside. Coworkers wished me a good morning, and I grunted something in reply. I poured more coffee and glanced around the office. That's when I noticed my oversight. Today was Casual Consciousness Tuesday, and here I was in my Business Consciousness attire. I felt a little self-conscious. Granted, it's not as bad as the time I went to work without my skin, but it's still a bit awkward. On the positive side, I don't have to lug that bloated carcass around all day. I started thinking, "Hey! I should try to enjoy this!" I flew all around the office. I soared through IT, racing past all of my body-bound coworkers. I started a dozen different conversations, flitting between herds. Everyone else seemed so slow, forming words with lips and all. In retrospect, I might have had too much coffee. I flew upstairs and into the executive offices to attend a meeting. Imagine my surprise when I saw a sign on the conference room door, "Emboided Consciousnesses Only." Wow. That's Physicalism, and it's wrong. Dejected, I returned to my cubicle and glanced at the clock. (Sigh...) There's only another 7.5 hours left of the workday. I hope that lazy body enjoys taking the day off. i can't believe it, but I'm beginning to miss that blubberous lump. Next time, I'll make sure I'm fully enfleshed.

Starise, I'm afraid not. Sorry. Wookiee, I know it might sound like a good idea right now, but there's a lot less fur when you're a disembodied consciousness. Spacey, I'll commiserate with Wookiee from afar. I prefer to keep my lumbar joints connected in some fashion. Old55, I tried that once before. It turns out that slicing up your own brain is preferable to spending time with a lawyer. Mesh, I suspect the answer is D: All of the Above. Also, my Id itches. As far as the Bapuitis is concerned, I understand it can only be treated with an excessive number of plugins. It's no cure, of course, but it helps. CraigB, if I didn't look at me, no one would. Come to think of it, that's not a bad idea.

I don't want to make a habit of it. Family members sometimes pose it in unnatural ways. In addition, once people get used to the idea of being spared the ordeal of seeing my physical form, they get very cranky when it shows up.

Starise I hope you're not dead.
What? Why would "out of the body" suggest one is dead? If you dream enough and you know how to "click" you will do the same thing! Besides, dead, he would not be giving us a fun story! The only hard part of being out of the body, is the forward and backward time thing is really out of sync and we don't realize it! AND, that is the part that scares people the most! Where do you think most "seers" and "religious" folks in history got their stuff from? Their butt? UB ... we need to put together a nice tensegrity piece of work. These folks are seriously lacking!

It may well be true that many OTBE's do not involve near-death experiences, but enough do that "I hope you're not dead." is a valid wish/comment. Hey, I hope you guys aren't dead. It would spoil your day--and mine.

It must be the language barrier or my attempt at the light hearted is once again just a futile attempt. Moshkaie, believe it or not some ghost hunters hold to the theory that at least some of what they see are people who don't know they are dead ;). I'm not sure how that works because 1. I have never been dead and not realized it. 2. I have never met anyone else who was dead and didn't know it, or at least they never let on to me that they might have been dead, but then that makes perfect sense that they might not tell me if they didn't know. I don't personally buy into the theory. I mean, If I were to have died in 1852 the house I lived in might look a little different and my family wouldn't be around anymore. However if I were on a morphine drip when I died I might think I'm tripping out or something. In UBs case he was able to write on the CH MB so either he has a great metaphysical ability to manipulate matter or he isn't dead and bless his soul I hope he isn't. I don't think it has been proven that when a person dreams they are out of body. In fact, have you ever seen the video where the dog was dreaming he was running? I don't think he had left his body.If he had, why was he trying to run while asleep? "Where do you think most "seers" and "religious" folks in history got their stuff from? Their butt?" To answer that Moshkiae, in some cases yes.In some cases no. Getting something from another source doesn't necessarily mean that the person came out of their body to get the info. Right? I am funnin' with you a little but I do actually believe we can do what UB did. I would have a tough time nicking my brain while shaving but that's another subject. Now as to why you would want to, what help you would get to make that happen. These are much deeper than the CH usually gets. I believe it happens involuntarily sometimes. Just remember- If you leave your body empty for too long someone else might take up residence in it. I hope UB gets back into his body soon. Slim pickins' I know but someone might be interested.
