I admit it. I'm the world's biggest wuss.
I'm flying to see my brother tomorrow and it scares me. I can't explain why. I'm losing sleep over it. I haven't been anywhere on a commercial airliner in 10 years. The weird thing is that I've twice been up with my friend who has a little 6 seater for local joy rides in the last few months and that has always been fun (a little scary I'll admit). I don't know why I feel the need to post this. But it's true. I'm a wuss.

Gee I hope you make it, lot of planes falling out of the skies these days, just watch the news, then you got the terrorists, it's a bit of a lottery really, but someones got to get it. Hmmmm, in America to boot, not the most liked country by the towel heads, that raises the odds a little more, ahhh, but you'll make it there . . . don't know about making it back though, that's really bumping the odds . . . Man what a feeling that must be, sitting in a plane that's going down, wonder what's going through your head ? I know once you actually hit the ground it will probably be the back of the seat in front of you . . . Anyway, best of luck Don't forget to check if your life insurance is up to date . . .

And before people try to tell you that flying is statistically safer than driving . . . well you can believe it, but don't you go taking any comfort from it, because you got to add in the other statistic, and that is the 'Chance of survival' statistic. Now in a car crash, you got a good chance, a very good chance of survival, but let me tell you, you start going down from way up there in a commercial airliner, and you aint walking away from this one . . . you're going to die, make no mistake. It will be a few minutes of extreme terror, before BANG!!! . . . body parts flying all over the place, chances are you wont feel anything, unless you really unlucky, and have to suffer until your last drop off blood spills out from where your arms and legs use to be, while your face is being melted off by the super hot flames fueled by the highly flammable aviation fuel. But hay, flying is safer than driving, unless you're one of those in the next one to fall or be blown from the sky. Cheers

I don't blame you. I hate flying, too. Congratulations on getting to see the Dead. It will be weird without Jerry, but it's still cool that they're celebrating their 50th anniversary. Have fun!

So you're saying that if you're not dead before you get there, you're going to see the dead when you do? And you don't think that's an omen?

imo your fear is irrational.. the jetliner is a far safer proposition than a small single-engine plane..

If each had engine loss the single engine plane can plan a stop (as it will still "sail" a lot longer). A commercial jet will "drop" a lot faster. That was a quote from a pilot friend of mine. Wing loss on the other hand. Both are in the sh!te.

I have a fear of flying and it has nothing to do with airplanes. A while back I had my first post 911 flight into the USA and it sucked. I'd not been on a plane in 20 years and it was almost an abusive experience. 3 hr early arrival, baggage searches, removing shoes and belt, having pants fall down while hands over head in the glass screening booth, TSA agents with a combination of fear and anger, not to mention that they jammed way more seats into the plane. If you want any comfort on the trip you have to pay for it. All of this and the prices continue to climb. Air travel sucks. I would be more comfortable in the Cessna.

Well that's a load off . . . , but statistically speaking most people perish on return trips/flights/cruises what have you. So you're not out of the woods yet, plus you got that event, " two tix for the Dead Sunday night in SF" whatever that is, just remember, large crowds of people have become favorite targets of our friends the terrorists, any time, any place, it's a roll of the dice, it's got to happen somewhere . . . Enjoy yourself, because each and any moment could be your last, and with the risks you are taking . . . phewwww

You are most likely subconsciously aware that the TSA will give you the third degree but let all the bombers, terrorist and hijackers through without a look. In fact you may not be allowed to get on the plane. You're not one of the above.

Hi, if the Dead do as many long cuts as they used to, then these shows will be worth it. I miss the days when the whole side of the bootleg was just one piece! Gives the word "progressive" or some other inexplicable non-sensical definition, come of as silly and uneducated. Not the best music, by many standards, but certainly one of the best sound stages and design ever done, and one of the few, where there were no stops for the quality of the equipment involved. The Dead are worth it, even if you miss them because you failed away!
Music is not about notes and chords! My poem is not about the computer or monitor or letters! It's about how I was able to translate it from my insides!

They did a moment of silence for those that couldn't be with us. So quiet you could hear the hum of the amplifiers.
