Yeah... I saw that actually happen to a brand new white Gibson SG with gold trim.... setting on a stand, and along come this dog and jacked his leg and let loose with a yellow stream.......

I was talking to the guy who owned it... and I says... "hey, there's a dog peeing on your guitar".... needless to say, I put my guitar in it's case and set it out of the dog's reach....

and no... it wasn't a beagle.

    As James observes...

    Beautiful Guitar Steve.

The Lawn not so much, far too much croquet played on that this season.

And as for the fence, well that looks decidedly local authority to me.  Dear, dear one has to maintain standards even through the ravages of a busy croquet season, I would train some Wisteria up there as soon as possible...

Fantastic work from Michael once again.  The Coffee House Craftsman.

Re:I am deeply in love or some other word that starts with the letter "L" 2011/08/13 04:40:57 (permalink)

    Guitar

I've now had a chance to put her through her paces, and this little beauty sounds just as good as she looks

After discussing it in depth with Michael, I opted for just three pots - the one nearest the bridge is a master volume control, the middle pot is a master tone control and the other one is a blender pot.

As I don't play live, I don't need the convenience of a three-way switch to change between pup outputs so Mike suggested installing the blender pot. It allows every possible combination from 100% neck through to 100% bridge, and it's notched at the midway point where both pups are at 100%. Combined with the overall master volume knob, you can see that the control over the output signal is comprehensive.

After just a little experimentation, I've found a real sweet spot on the blender at about 100% bridge + 30% neck where she absolutely roars

The neck-through construction, combined with Michael's wonderful choice of wood for the build, is delivering a beautifully rich tone - she sounds sweet even when she's not plugged in! And the sustain is just unbelievable.

I'll get round to recording a few examples for you to listen to asap.

I'd like to say a few things about Michael at this juncture. This guy is a real gentleman, and a true craftsman to boot. We've shared about 200 e-mails during the build (in addition to some correspondence with Danny when deciding on the pick-ups) and Mike has got me involved at every stage - whether it's giving me options or giving me advice. In the main, I've been able to choose what I wanted and where to put it, but always guided by his knowledge of the matter in hand.

Even when, of necessity, he had to get technical (I'm far from being a guitar buff), he had a knack of explaining the details so I could understand the options available at each stage. Mike's underlying motive from start to finish has always been to create the guitar that I wanted, and I'm not overstating the fact in saying that he's accomplished that, and more.

As most of you will know, I'm lucky enough to already own a handmade guitar, but comparing the two is really like chalk and cheese, the build quality of Ruby is in a completely different league altogether - it just screams quality both as a musical instrument, and as a piece of craftsmanship.

    Garden

It does look a bit of a state doesn't it

In my defence, I did a fair bit of weeding/pruning yesterday (before Ruby arrived) and, as usual, just lobbed the trimmings etc onto the lawn which will all get sucked up into the mower when I get around to cutting the grass. So it does all look a bit of a mess. Plus I'm too bloody tight to water the grass

Beag, the fence is in pretty good repair - the strategic arrangement of chicken wire on the left of those pics is (seriously) my latest (and so far useless) attempt to thwart next door's cats from geting into my garden and befouling my lawns.

And I'm afraid it's nothing to do wiv the council JB - I had to pay to make it look that bad
