I am registered for Chicago Marathon
This would be my second time. I've been training about two months. Lost 20lbs. Having second thoughts now on actually running this event. My prayers are going out to the people in Boston. This country needs prayers. Paul

Hell I'm even afraid to get on the subway. I hate when a terrorist attack/threat happens, I get all jumpy on public transport and find myself looking around to see if anyone looks explodey.

terrorism is a relatively new thing here, but being from the UK and particularly having been in the armed services I lived under the concern/threat of terrorist attacks for about a decade or more... looking under the car before getting in, checking the mirror for tails, taking an advantageous seat at restaurants (a habit i cannot avoid even 20 years later), and being very quick about Christmas shopping...all prime targets in the day.. the threat is ever present, it is real, and attacks will happen. All i can say is that terrorism operates by fear, and it is up to the individual to determine if they will let that change their lives.. Regardless, no matter what the authorities may say, there is no set of security precautions that can protect a 26 ml road race ran by thousands and viewed by tens of thousands, and with an assumed level of blanket security I suspect that the whole experience will not be the same for many years... so if it was me..i wouldnt bother..but for the latter reason, not the threat level.

taking an advantageous seat at restaurants (a habit i cannot avoid even 20 years later) I will NEVER sit with my back to the door, no matter where I go. My wife thinks I'm totally paranoid, but if there's no seat available that lets me see the entrance I'll go somewhere else.

I hope and pray we don't see a similar experience with the Chicago marathon, Paul. I know you were looking forward to the marathon. My prayers are with the victims and their families in Boston.

My wife thinks I'm totally paranoid, but if there's no seat available that lets me see the entrance I'll go somewhere else. My worst fear is being in a basement joint with only one exit. Years ago I went in a club in Spain that was like this. I couldn't understand how everyone was so relaxed & enjoying themselves, when all I could think about was "what happens if a fire starts in the exit."

You can't let fear run your life (applies to everyone - not necessarily "you" Mooch). That's exactly what these cowards want. Your odds of being hit by lightning are probably higher than being hurt by a terrorist so I say RUN!

I would consider it a PB if I at least have all my limbs still attached at the end of the race...
