I am sincerely sorry.

Please let me take this opportunity to apologise publicly to (the) "several of the forum's users" who recently reported me to the Cakewalk moderators for using the word "t**t" in some of my recent posts.

I'll try my best not to use this word again.

Steve

One thing I've noticed after more than a decade in the US is that the t-word and c-word are taken very much literally, to mean the female genitalia. Whereas in the UK you can use them as all-purpose expletives without such connotations. It took me a while to realize how serious the c-word is over here...I think it was that episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm, where Larry uses it during a game of poker, that finally made it click.

In line with Sharke's remarks, there are several American commonly used expressions that would be offensive if considered in their original meaning; e.g. calling someone a "jerk".

Your expression of regret and remorse is truly refreshing and should be rewarded by a classic example of Brit-speak/Ameri-speak: So you may well appreciate the expressions of shock and concern on my British friend's faces when I mentioned that when my father was a young man in the 1930s he wore knickers.

For everyone else, I meant these:

but they pictured my father in something like these:

Well I have a little theory that a Brit was describing a sexual act to an American and there was some confusion over which orifice he was referring to. It just snowballed from there.

wow! someone reported you and bothered the CW people coz you said the t-word?! Amazing!

In any case, it takes huge bols (is that censored enough?) to apologise publicly like you did. So kudos to you mate!

In UK there are 2 version of the t-word. One with an 'i' and one with an 'a'.

The 'i' one is like calling someone an idiot. But it can be used even in a "nice way" to someone you're familiar with like

A: "May I have some coffee, please?"
B: "Of course you may! You don't even need to ask you silly t*it"

But the 'a' one is female genitalia.

It's much less horrible calling someone that, than the c-word though. The c-word is even worse than calling a woman a "wh*re".

    I can't believe I'm posting this :)

    I wonder...

If the people that reported you Steve realize
that what they did or more specifically how they
handled it is much much lower than you using
    a questionable word.

I was pissed when I read and posted last night...good thing I deleted it.

Today I'm wondering what's up with the world...it seems so F'ng crazy - just
like people thinking that little *'s work and that peoples minds just go blank
when those little asterics are used or that it protects the young readers.
I have news for them...those young ones probably can't read 3-4 different
languages but I bet they can tell people to go get ****ed in at least three.
Did the *'s make everything alright?
I'd also rather have my kid know what that word meant in another culture
so when they heard it they could inform the other kids that where giggling and
caring on about the grump that said a "bad" word.

I have read insinuations here that were much worse than a questionable word.
But I reckon that those that reported you for one word don't realize a lot of things.

Personally I think they can go **** themselves and if their mind went blank seeing
those little *'s then they can go get one of their kids to tell them in a language
    they can understand.

They should apologize to you Steve.

The t word isn't that bad... the c word gets some people really twisted out of joint though, especially women (understandably) ... but I thought it was even worse in the UK? I was warned very clearly before I went to avoid using it lest I wanted to get glassed. They also said not to use "b*gger" either and that the f-word had a lot more power than it does here. Strange stuff.

Swearing is basically mainstream in the UK. I've heard "bugger" on kid's TV. Also "sod," which is derived from "sodomy." The f-word? Pffft....Sometime in the early 90's I was dragged along to a big wrestling event at the Wembley Arena in London. The place was full of parents with their kids. And the parents were screaming at each other before the show started: "Shat the fack ap! Sit daaaan! Move your facking head! Ooo's that facker over there fink he is? Oy! You! Facker! Tell your kids to shat the fack up! No! YOU shat the **** ap you facking areshole!" I think I heard more f-words in that 15 minutes than I have in total ever since.

I too am surprised that not just one member but "several" alerted the Mod Squad.

I could understand if one of our lovely lady members maybe were a little offended. But our lady members know the CH group well enough that they'd either PM Steve with a 'Now now Strummy, that wasn't very nice' or most likely just post it right there in the thread.

This whole ordeal is just Monkey Arse!
