Becuase it's fun and it's reminds me of my child hood.

Or we can debate warmth over digital. But I don't know about all that I just like it.

Doh, that's not it either. Just go to a club and play records on a turntable plugged into a Macintosh tube amp (not that Tascam preamp in yer vid).

Why can't I just listen to my vinyl through the tascam? Doesn't bother me. It cost too much money at the club and they tend to kick me out of those places.

They only play in one direction and that made it a lot easier to hide all the back masked secret messaging.

 
Yeah but then they invented Sonar. We all can burn the CD to wave form and  reverse the wave audio in Sonar so we can hear the evil messages and then ask Bapu for advice on EQ'ing the message.

I have hundreds of LPs. I think I have ALL the Fleetwood Mac Lps up through Rumors. I LOVED the Bob Welch era FM. When I met my wife I lived in an old farmhouse, on a dirt road. The only house on the road, surrounded by pastures... with cows, cow manure and a certain fungi that thrives in cow manure. I used two rooms in the house. I had a mattress in one room and my records and stereo in another room. On the back porch I had a sofa and two easy chairs, a fridge, and stereo speakers. A good time was had by all! The only running water was out at the well, it had a small wood building, like a freestanding closet around it. I had a piece of water hose looped around the top, that was my shower. I think the year before  Igot married I had 14 W2s and I only worked about 6 months of the year. I woud work, get party money and either quit or get fired. Party... use up the money and go get another job (there were jobs back then, didn't even think about getting any govt money.) Life was GOOD!! Then I got married and the next year I worked all 12 months and only had one W-2. I have always been very pragmatic and knew to have a good time while I was able to do it right... God has been very graceful to me.
So yeah...
There is something about handling LPs, the big package, big pictures... and the whole experience of maintaining a record, anti-static, all the ritual thatjust cannot be replaced.
 
THIS: is what I use for LPs. It is a Sansui model 771, pic is not mine but is one like it. I run it through a pair of speakers that look like
 
 
these:  Not sure what model number they are but they are, SP- something, they are a match for the 771 and sound GREAT. The old lattice front speakers look as good as they sound. I know they are not audiophile but, its only rock n roll...
 
I also have one of these: (a real monster) SX-1010
 
but I don't have a set of speakers, at the moment, that it will not damage..
 
Have one of these: with the attendant preamp and tuner and a set of Altec Lansing 602D 15" Duplex speakers. A pair of Stromberg Carlson "Acoustical Labarynth" speakers that were pulled from an old console... and a whole house worth of old goldcab Heathkit speakers.The HKs are pretty big cabinets with small speakers. They are about 5" deep, about 24" tall x maybe 18" wide. Very retro.
 
Last but not least a:
"The Fisher" model 600, in a custom wood cabinet on legs with the receiver built in, face up, a Sony 350 reel to reel deck occupies the rest of the top of the cabinet, and a drawer slides out from under the R2R with an origina AR turntable.
 
You need the proper equipment if you are going to play LPs.
 
The only one set up and ready to play is the Sansui system right now. I really need to install the Altecs, and intend to build them into my room. I want to be able to use the Dynakit and the ALs as an alternative mixing tool. I need to hire some help... or I will never get it all done.
 
Sorry, but you mentioned LPs and got me started... I wish I still had all the records I once had. I got rid of a bunch once in a moment of well intentioned but legalistic lunacy, rebought a lot of them.
 
Some of my favorite LPs to put on are Live/Dead and Blows Against The Empire. Somehow they seem to be better on LP. I'm sure it is just a prejudice but.. whatever works, right? I have almost all the Monks of Doom and most of the Camper Van Beethoven catalog on LP too, along with lots of late 60s/early 70s records. I have a good many LPs from the 40s and 50s too, I pick them up when I find them in good condition at estate sales etc. It is surprising at the LPs you can find in great shape, if you keep and eye out... and someof them are worth big bucks... I wont get into my Marvel comic book collection from the 60s. Well, maybe a litte. I have issue #1 of Sgt Fury and His Howlin' Commandos, the forst appearance or the Green Lantern, The first appearance on Iron Man in a Tales to Astonish and a bunch of early Thor comics from Journey Into Mystery. Early Fantastic Four, I sold a few comics back in the 80s and I wish I still had them, Spiderman #3 and a few 3 or 4 others that got me nearly 100 bucks even in the early 80s... but I had to have the money. Thankfully, I still have most of them. Lots of Casper the Friendly Ghost and Richey Rich, etc from when I was a "little kid". One of my very best memories was when dad would take me to the "news stand" after Church on Sunday and let me pick out a comic book. Then when we got home I would sit in his lap in the living room (where we never lived) and feel his calloused, rough hands while he read me the comic book.

BTW, your vloghas inspired me. I think I am going to do a blog. I am not up to the vlog but I have been meaning to do some writing for a while. I have some things to say, more serious things... things told to me in seret that I should shout from the rooftop, as I was told to do.

Very interesting reading your story jbow! Reminds me that (before my time) one of the main Dairy provinces here had a yearly music festival called the Mushroom Ball.

What's cooler than vinly?? VIRGIN Vinyl... thats what!! Singlehandedly.. I don't know. MAybe you should use both hands. BTW, I noticed at least 4 LPs I have in the shot of the records in the store! Nice, well done!
