I am so freakin close. Sonar 7 Producer Edition and Presonus Audiobox USB - can't play

It's going to sound like I went and got this stuff then hid in a cave for 3 years.  Well, I did that pretty much.  I bought Sonar 7 PE a few years ago along with a Presonus Audiobox USB, installed the stuff, and then I lost my job.

After a few years at short-term jobs and projects I finally got a steady job.  Now I can come back to try and work with this stuff.

Everything is installed, but when I try to play anything like the samples tunes from Sonar 7 PE, I don't get any song playback through the Audiobox USB, but everything else like warning bells and dings (Windows sounds) in the program ARE audible and work just fine.  Also, if I change the output from the Audiobox to the internal Microsoft GS sound table (changing the output on each track from Audiobox to Microsoft GS), that will play through my Audiobox and headphones, but playing Audiobox out MIDI won't do a thing.  I'm running with the USB cord from the PC (Windows7) to the Audiobox and a set of good headphones on the headphone jack on the Audiobox.  So I DO get other various sounds from the computer through the Audiobox, but Sonar won't play any tunes while specifying the Audiobox as an output, only the Microsoft GS.

I did fiddle with Options/Audio/Advanced and tried ASIO, WDM/KS, and even MME to no available.  Even tried ASIO4ALL and that didn't change anything either.

Any suggestions?

    Welcome to the forum.
The Audiobox doesn't have a MIDI synthesizer (I'm guessing, since very few audio interfaces include synthesizers these days), so sending MIDI data to it will result in no MIDI being played, unless it's connected to a MIDI keyboard or sound module.
Insert a software synthesizer and set the outputs of your MIDI track(s) to that soft synth and the synth's output to the Presonus.
Remove ASIO4All from your computer and go to Presonus's web site and download/install their true ASIO drivers (if available) for your Audiobox and operating system for better performance.

I selected "Roland Groovesynth" softsyntgh, changed outputs on a 2-part song so Ch1 was to the Roland Groovesynth" and selected a sound.  Did the same for Ch2.  Nothing.  Tried Cakewalk TTS softsynth.  Set channels again.  Nothing.  Still I get the "boinks" and "bells" with windows sounds through my headphones, and the Microsoft GS table works fine.  Any ideas?

    Hmm. A few thoughts.
Uninstall ASIO4All. Its mere presence will interfere with native ASIO drivers for a device.
The Presonus site is kind of odd.
It lists USB Driver v1.2 as current, but v2.8.40 as a legacy driver.
Strange. Which version do you have installed?
Have you tried right-clicking the Sonar Icon, and selecting Run as Admin?
Yes, I know, you are probably the only user, and you are the admin, but W7 seems to be kind of funny about that.
Can you verify that you are getting sound at all from Sonar?
This may be a key point.
Sound from the MS Wavetable synth is not coming from Sonar. It travels a completely different path to your interface.
Load an MP3 or wav file into an audio track. Can you hear it play?
If not, double check you settings in Options>Audio.
Is the Presonus selected for both Recording and Playback Timing Masters?
Are the Presonus Input/Output drivers selected?
That's probably enough questions for now. Let us know where that gets you.

I think I got it figured out.  The major problem is that any of the presets that I try picking from Sonar don't work, but if I carefully try and start each track from scratch, then I can get a soft synth to work.  Thanks for all your help!
