I am trying to send my midi outputs to two different places at the same time, need help.

I have Sonar Platinum and want to sent the midi output to two different places at the same time. I have it going to Rapture currently then to mixer, but now I want to also send it to my voicelive2 to keep chorus in tune. can not figure it out. Any Hints?

Unless I have missed something big, a MIDI track can only have one output. The standard kludge is to copy the track and send the output of each copy to its respective target. A more sophisticated kludge involves sending the output to a virtual MIDI cable or virtual patch bay and sending the outputs from that. This feature has been requested by some of us for years, but apparently most of us find no need for it.

For the copy method consider using linked clips. As it happens, this is the most recent tip of the week http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3639900

I guess I am known for being a little unconventional.
I have my keyboards going into the computer via USB, thru rapture, and then out to my mixer.
I do not usually record with cakewalk... I use a Yamaha AW1600 for recording then import to cake walk for mastering.
Now I need that same keyboard Midi signal to go to voicelive 2 box via usb.
I try to send it to VoiceLive2 it stops going to the mixer, and when I choose mixer it does not go to VL2.
I need Cakewalk to send it to both places at the same time.
I may not have understood what was in those links but they did not look like they applied here.

So your MIDI tracks aren't in SONAR, but rather in the hardware recorder? If that's the case, then you need a MIDI splitter box. They're cheap. But if the MIDI tracks are in SONAR, the way to do it is how scook suggested - linked MIDI tracks.

It's essentially creating additional MIDI outputs. Much better than copy-and-paste because if you want to subsequently make some edits, you need only alter the original MIDI track.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Well... they are not exactly midi tracks... It is live play and I use cakewalk Rapture as a synthesizer for my midi keyboards. The VoiceLive adds the chorus in the key that is played into the instrument or Midi port. Kind of like a personal trainer. Teaches me to keep in key or to use out of key for special effect. Basically using Cakewalk as a giant synthesizer for my keyboards. I have been working on why the midi plug that goes to the voicelive is not working. I may have to disconnect the USB for the midi direct to work... now it's coming back to me. Have to give that a try.

update... turning things off and on and what ever... the direct midi connection from keyboard started working with the USB hooked up as well. No explanation but it is working again in the configuration like bitflipper said. Midi hooked up externally hardwired. I play the Guitar mostly but when I want to do something different I play the keyboards... when they work. The problem was not cakewalk but equipment. Now if I can figure out how to get my picture changed on the left we should be set for a while.

This might be worth a try.
Can you create two MIDI tracks, one to feed each synth.  Then set both their inputs to your MIDI kbd, and make sure Input Echo is on.
Logically, they would both take what you're playing and feed their respective instrument.

I'll see what that does Slugbaby. I was in the middle of doing something like that yesterday but something just wasn't working. I think it was a lock up on one of the tree connected devices. at the same time I was trying to down load all the cakewalk updates. I already have two midi Inputs, one for each keyboard. one goes to Rapture1 and the other to rapture2 each with a different preset. So, you are saying make a third one with an output connected to the VL2. might even be able to connect a forth to the second keyboard. Should work.

Nope. The outputs went in fine I guess; but, it appears that the VL2 only looks at the "instrument in" or the "midi in" jacks. It did not pick up the Key signal for the chorus and it would not even do a Keychange. Have to look at the schematics and the manual to be sure.
