I arm for record, press "r", and X1 hangs.
If I hit the space bar, it will play, and then I can un-arm the track. But while it's hung, I can't do any file actions either, nor can I manually shut down X1; I have to use Task Manager. Is the file is corrupt? This may have occurred when I powered off and on my M-Audio device? I don't know. The other possibility is that the last thing I did before the problem was I was playing with the arpeggiator within X1 on one of the midi tracks. The main thing is, I don't want to lose all the stuff I just created. I want to somehow save the tracks. Does anyone know how to do this? Or, better yet, any ideas on how to fix the problem in the first place? Many thanks, Eric

Have you tried another file to find out if you can record?
If it works maybe you could copy/paste the tracks to this new file testing after each copy/paste (to be honest I've never tried it, but I'm sure it's possible).
Please update you signature with specs (i.e. see mine).

OK, so get this. I tried arming the track, hitting play, and while it was playing, I hit "r", and lo and behold, it recorded. Subsequently, it worked normally, just hit "r" after arming and it worked. I have to say that over the years, the odd problems I've had, and the sheer size of this forum, does not speak well of Sonar or Cakewalk.

sorry for weird formatting of expanded signature. I set it up as separate lines. tried to fix it, we'll see how this turns out when I post it

Smells of driver issue away from Cakewalk.... pressing record polls the driver software and besides I haven't seen any other posts like this with this specific problem (you would expect more).

Try pasting into notepad first or using a different browser (these forums suck sometimes)

eric.. as for the browser, firefox is a pain to use on this.. so try chrome..
as for your interface, what is it , a 1010 or something ? you might find a reinstall of the drivers might fix it. as every few months my ozone (m-audio) also used to go "funky".. and the only thing that would fix that was a reinstall of the drivers.
