I can't believe it's over!

I watched the last two episodes of Deep Space Nine last night.

It's hard to believe just how much I disliked it at first and how it ended up being one of my favorite shows ever.

I guess it's time to move on to Voyager. I'm sure I'll hate it for a couple of episodes and it'll probably grow on me after a while.

But, alas, no Worf...

Never watched it.  Shouldn't it move on to Deep Space Ten for next season?

Back on topic..never seen any of the Star Trek series after the original. I did start to watch Next Generation but couldn't get into it.

It took me a while to even consider watching Next Generation. The first few episodes were kind of a shock - that stuff really didn't age well. But I persevered and eventually got hooked.

Deep Space Nine I really didn't like at first, but it now holds a very special place to me. It's a much darker kind of Star Trek, dealing with things like beliefs and faith, and featuring characters which are much more nuanced than the other series. The line between the good guys and the bad guys isn't as definitive and even the Federation is questioned and criticized.

As for Voyager - despite my apprehensions, I actually dug the first 3 episodes. Go figure.

Babylon Five may be better but the series to me costs too much. It was out once, missed it. Watch StarGate I guess.
Aliens movies, Predator movies. Terminator movies.

Flying through Borg Spacetime with Voyager. Yea, really?
Last Episode about is great though, because it is about time-travel.

I enjoyed the next generation at the time it was new although I have to agree that it has aged horribly. Netflix has allowed me to retroactively watch every star trek series.

I liked DS9 a lot more than I thought I would. Very dark version that I wonder how much the creator of star trek would have liked. The Ferengi were comical relief at times and sometimes dreadful filler.

Enterprise imo was surprisiny the best of any of the series. It was refreshing watching all the mistakes that lead to the need for a prime directive. Also seeing how hunbling early encounters were when they were under gunned, alone and the transporter being rather dangerous and unpredicatable.

Voyagr bored me to tears the first season but got exponentially better as it matured. Hated the end and hated the forced Q storylines but liked it overall. I also loved that they managed to find a species more badass than the Borg

Considering how much a lot of what we see on TV these days revolves around shocking the audience one way or another and lowering the bar, the Star Trek franchise is a gem. At least it was before JJ Abrams made those horrible movies.

It's also a nice form of escapism; imagine, a future where people work to better themselves and just about everyone can appreciate classic literature, classical music and even theatre. Not that it's likely to happen, mind you... Even Star Trek had to be dumbed down for the masses by the aforementioned Abrams...

I haven't watched any DS9 in a long time, seems they don't rerun those on the channels I have.  But I did love DS9 when it was originally aired and we watched it all the time.

however, I never could get into Voyager.  Seven of Nine was it's only redeeming feature, IMO.  Oh - and the holographic doctor...but seems they may have stolen that idea from somewhere...

I watch everything online. The CBS web site has practically every episode of every series, minus one or two. But those missing ones can usually be found on Hulu, and they're free too. Though I've had to buy one DS9 episode in the iTunes store as it couldn't be found anywhere (legally, that is).

Streaming from CBS is a pain, though. Whatever I can find on Hulu is my first option, though usually they only offer one season for free. We do have a paid account, but I just prefer to watch that stuff on my computer, in the "man cave/studio".

DS9 was indeed cheesy at first but got awesome however the war theme got exhausting after a while. I think should have done more eps off the main storyline to give the watcher a bit of a breather. Voyager also kind of blows but is kind of awesome but I think it's more to do with some of the characters/acting as opposed to the writing.

Be sure to watch the movies too in the appropriate sequence because some of those plotlines add to the overall ST universe.

You can Wiki for all the timelines and where everything falls into place as far as series and specific eps and there is that alpha site that keeps even more meticulous records on it all.

I'm addicted to Memory Alpha (the Star Trek wiki) as well as all the rest of that stuff. :)

I do consider myself a Trekkie in some ways - though I'm not an outcast unless by choice, I don't collect toys, I don't own a Federation shirt and you wouldn't catch me within a ten miles radius of a ST convention.

I do drool over some of those Enterprise models, but who doesn't? :P

That being said, DS9 is the first series which made me want to check out the books. The series had ups and downs - one of the last episodes, Extreme Measure, was particularly unbearable - but it's a universe with much potential.

To be honest I probably never would have been motivated to watch all the ST stuff if I didn't need to do hours of physio a day but it is indeed a very interesting universe especially after spending some time learning about basic astronomy and astro physics. When I was kid ST TNG was new and seemingly on TV all the time but I always ended up falling asleep because I didn't really understand it.

As far as the books... I am intrigued because it's all very addictive as far as wanting to figure out what's what and filling in the blanks (even the non canon stuff) but I can't hold books while stretching and flopping about so any reading that gets done is strictly technical manuals and now with the intertubes I don't even really bother with paper anymore anyway.

I just remembered though I haven't watched the reboots yet but I hear they broke a lot of the original mythology. Even Enterprise had some kind of dumb things that didn't make sense in a historical concept but I liked that in the last season they put the effort into explaining some discrepancies (like the Klingon virus but if you haven't seen that stuff I won't spoil it). They should have spent more time working on fleshing out the history as a prequel instead of going all weird with species and wars never mentioned before.

Toys, shirts and other dealibobs are simply things that I don't get into to. I'd rather spend the money/apartment space on useful stuff like music/computer gack. I did have a pretty cool Star Wars collection as kid.

I'll probably rewatch the original series again soon because I've only been through those once. Much lulz to be had with those.

Cheers.

I guess my post would make a little more sense if I said that I watch shows on my laptop during all that stretching and flopping about. I've watched a ridiculous amount of old tv shows over the past few years. Thank goodness for the intertubes because those routines would be far more boring/maddening without something to keep my mind occupied.

Currently watching Heroes... which is... meh... alright I guess. Pretty good for an NBC offering.

As long as I can watch them legally online, I'm not enough of a Trekkie to buy the box sets.  Anyway, I prefer to buy "virtual" collections, from iTunes whenever the option is available.

I'm hoping it'll be the case for the Batman 1966 seres, due out on my wife and I's wedding anniversary. Holy coincidence, Batman!

Now THAT is something I've been waiting for. Hopefully, it'll be released on iTunes eventually, like the old 'incredible Hulk" series.

I have no comment on Batman because it is on TV here every Saturday nite for however long it will be on. Now, Wonder Woman, may be a different issue, but even with that I probably would not buy either series.

That was extraordinarily well done. I could not believe how seamless they made it. That was part of the ST anniversary blitz. Voyager had a throwback ep at the same time too... and maybe Enterprise but I forget.

For fans of the original series, there's something new out there. Star Trek Continues is a fan supported web series featuring new episodes with new actors playing the original characters. Here's a link to their site. http://www.startrekcontinues.com/

They started their first episode with a kickstarter campaign. They now have three episodes available online. The stories are based upon episodes of the original series. The attention to detail in this web series is incredible. The sets look authentic. The actors do a very reasonable job of portraying the original cast. (Incidentally, the role of Chief Engineer Scott is played by Chris Doohan, the son of the original Mr. Scott.)

If you loved the original series, you might enjoy this new series.
