I can't copy - Does anyone copy ?
I have never been able to figure out the "COPY FROM" (time) - "COPY THRU" (time) dialog. Previously because I could not make it work - I would slice the clips, select them and paste. But that is so painstakingly slow when copying say an entire chorus with maybe 40 or 50 tracks. So I have tried it again and still no go. Here's the deal. I "SELECT ALL - from the menu - I next choose COPY FROM - in this case 23.01.000 then COPY THRU - in this case 44.01.000 I then set the now marker to measure 63.01.000 THEN - from the same edit menu - I choose PASTE - I select(ed) in the dialog box to "BLEND OLD WITH NEW" . Nada. So then I try REPLACE OLD WITH NEW. Nada. I can't find much help in the Sonar power book. I am running SONAR 6.x for this project. Can anyone help ? I'm stumped and crying uncle

You working with midi or audio? I've never been able to copy/paste audio without sniping first. I think same thing happens to me as happens to you. Haven't tried it in a long time. John

hey Dano! Good to see you! I've never used that method to copy- the "Dialog" you're referring to so I don't know... I've never had any problem copying clips, though... I think your problem may be trying to redefine the clip by "from x:xx to x:xx". Just select the clips, they'll define how long they are for you. If you only want to select parts of the clips, you may need to split them at those points and select the clips then. If you want to trim them all to regions, paste them overall, then select them all and drag the edges to what you want. May not be the way you want to do it, but it's always worked fine for me... Hope all is well with you- Ev

John Hi John. It's both midi and audio. I have a feeling it doesn't work as expected. I hope someone will chime in that may know for sure.

Song has like 20 harmony tracks alone with teensy maybe I one or 2 measure takes per track - showing as mulitple layers. To do it as you suggest, which is what I have always did to before, I guess I wolld either need to render the audio or output each track thru the console and back into the box as a new track

hey Dano- When I'm trying to copy many tracks, I just make a new "Save as" then park my now time where I want to copy from and select all>Split ("cntrl+a>"S") then park my now time at the end of what I want to copy and do the same. Then cntrl+C and then you get the copy dialog, you know the rest I bet. Sonar has no problems copying midi and audio with a bunch of tracks, just split all, the whole timeline, where you want to start and end, should be fine!

Thanks Evan. I'll freeze all the tracks to turn all those little clips in big ones and do it the way you do I guess. Still wish I could figure out the other dialog though.

Not sure what "COPY FROM" (time) - "COPY THRU" (time) dialog is but you shouldn't need to split, trim, delete etc. If you are talking about using "Set From = Now" and "Set To = Now" to define selection in/out points that should work fine. Sonar 7 the short cut keys are F9 and F10. So basically Ctrl+a to select all, set now marker to in point by left mouse click in ruler area (to make sure you don't unselect any track) or go to marker if you have them set and hit F9. Do the same for out point using F10. Ctrl+c to copy, set appropriate check marks in copy dialog. Move now time to where you want to paste. Ctrl+v to paste and make appropriate settings in paste dialog box. Here is a link to video... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PzTZaPNnlKk

It perfectly copies everything even the short 1 and 2 measure clips spread over multiple layers on a track. I am truly indebted to you for your help. This should be a sticky somewhere. I searched thru every thing I could find numerous times to figure out how to do what you have so artfully explained. Thank you.
