I cant get any progress

i have cakewalk music creator 2. for some damn reason, it doesnt recognize my amp plugged into the computer.. but i can get my amp to play through the computer speakers. whats wrong? i have my 1/4 guitar amp cable connected to a 1/4th adapter then into the line-in in the back of my computer.. it plays through the speakers but cakewalk wont record it.. what do i need to do? im some what computer illit.. so someone with patience please help me. im in a bad need of some help. thanks.
