I don't like the hi hat sounds in SD3

I read there is a way to edit the sfz files to create or edit some of the existing hat sounds included in SD3.
Is there a video tutorial that explains how to do this?

Thanks

Here's a link to forum member Mike McCue's tutorial on creating custom instruments and kits for Session Drummer:

I don't know of a video. The way I approached this was to make a copy of the sfz file I wanted to change, then open it in a text editor and edit the lines that define which samples to use.

Simon Cann's book on Cakewalk Synthesizers has a good chapter on the sfz format, and I got this on amazon uk recently for £12 incl shipping

    Thanks everyone.

McCue's Tut looked really old. Anyway, I actually found out myself last night.

Why not throw them on their own output and apply some eq and/or other effects in the arsenal?

Most good hi hat samples are thick as hell, full spectrum of the sound they can make so you can sculpt them to taste.

    Thanks DJ

Lance, I like the exact sound that I am looking for, so no I don't want to go through the eq and effects to get the exact same sound when I can take the sound and use it.

That's because Session Drummer is really old.

I don't think much has changed under the hood to render the any of what he wrote irrelevant.

There may be easier ways of editing SFZ files now, but what needs to be done has not changed.

It's still a good overview of how Session Drummer works, and how to customize its instruments and kits.

I have never seen SD look like that. But yeah, it still applies to the new SD in a lot of ways.

I think it's noted in the screenshot caption or nearby that he's using his own custom "skin" for SD.
