I got a 24hr ban from Facebook - cruel and unusual punishment?
All I did was call someone stupid - 24hr ban. It's political correctness/health & safety gone mad/bonkers!
Fair's fair - the guy WAS stupid.

You get banned for calling someone stupid. I've reported pages that advocated the assassination of a political leader and the systematic rape of women only to be told that my request had been evaluated but FB considered that there was nothing wrong with those pages.

Yep someone complained that I called someone as dumb as a box of rocks and that was enough to warrant a ban. But yes, there are pages which propagate racism and sexually explicit stuff which are considered to be protected free speech by Facebook. Hey I'm into free speech too - so let me call people as dumb as rocks as and when I see fit! If someone called me dumb (which happens, hard to believe I know....) I just can't imagine being so upset that I complained to a higher authority.

I would say that calling someone stupid out loud is only of any potential benefit to bystanders who are too stupid to recognize other's stupidity in action for themselves. It is unlikely to have any positive benefit for anyone else, so why bother?
If you're talking to yourself then you don't need to do it out loud.
And if scoring points in an argument with a stupid person is important to you, then who is being stupid?

You're reading way too much into it. Sometimes, when someone is being extra dumb, it just feels right to tell them. And it's not as if I didn't accompany the slur with an explanation.

You know, though I must have "liked" +600 pages, I avoid to read comments as much as possible, because stupid is ALWAYS present.
I've even unfollowed many relatively good friends who regularly post political and philosophical content because they happen to accept requests from just about any idiot and those idiots are the first to pollute the comment section.
My Facebook is all about cats, guitars, music I like, Darth Vader figures and KISS collectibles.
And the obvious quasi-daily Ron Burgundy quote. ;)
Light-hearted stuff.
I've got plenty of serious books to enlighten myself w/o wasting my time and energy reading what every genius out there has to say.
Otherwise, it's like walking in a McDonalds' and complaining because the food is unhealthy.

I have read somewhere that the only way society can really function is if everyone never says everything they are really thinking and people need to modify the truth at times. I hate to admit the truth in that. I guess I'm a participant. FWIW sharke...I would have defended to the death your right to say something I might not agree with. I think sometimes people are too thin skinned to hear another opinion on something.
Let me slightly modify that abiove statement...I wouldn't defend it to the death but I would have encouraged it :) If you guys were arguing over something like the validity of yoga or chiropractery...I don't want to get involved :)
