I got a 7 day ban from Facebook
...for "harassment." Because I called someone a "buttercup" in a comment. THAT'S how ridiculous it is. I mean how buttercuppy could you possibly be than to report someone for harrasment because they called you a buttercup. I love it when I'm proved right

Haven't you heard people now have the right not to have their feelings hurt. Lawyer up. Next time just send the person some playdoh, coloring book and crayons.

On the other hand, I've often reported pages promoting rape, animal cruelty and even murder to no avail... Speaking of inappropriate content - last week, a suggested post popped up in my Facebook newsfeed about male attribute enlargement - with very graphic content. How this could even be sponsored content is beyond me. Maybe if I liked content that was somehow remotely linked to anything sexually explicit, I might understand. But being that I like pages about cats, music, music gear, classic literature, I fail to see how this ended up in my newsfeed. If I were a parent, I'd be a bit more worried, maybe. YouTube is another stellar exemple of shoving undesirable content under your nose (because, freedom of speech, you know...) while censoring other things that will leave you scratching your head.

The only reason I use Facebook is to keep in touch with family and friends overseas. This is what's so nasty about these idiots who complain and get people banned. They think nothing of cutting someone's line of communication just because their feelings were momentarily offended. What gets me is that these buttercup kids are in direct competition with their counterparts in places like Asia. We are so screwed.

yes i guess keeping in touch family and friends is a good use. but that could be the start of problems, as whatever they do or see may spill over into your world. not really sure how it all works, but can't you have it set up so you only receive or see stuff from those sources you wish? i never see anything other than from software/hardware companies, musical instrument companies, bands etc that i have chosen to see anything from. i remember a lot of settings saying things like "receive from friends" or "from friends of friends" or "everyone" etc, and as it is a fake account, there are no friends as such, everything is set to "friends" or whatever the lowest setting is from memory.

Must have been ... nahhhhh forget it ... yeah, the ability, noise and desire to do the right thing on Facebook, is all about words ... not what they mean. Remember, it's a database and they are not interested in the context of its use! You search for words and ban for using it. You might have put up a recipe for buttercups of some sort, and see if you got banned. I would like to find a good lawyer, because that could be considered harassment! We need to find some of the young guns at Stanford or Berkeley ... they love mindless idiots!
Music is not about notes and chords! My poem is not about the computer or monitor or letters! It's about how I was able to translate it from my insides!

Man.... I've gotten some warnings here for walking to close to the edge in a few posts in the past, but I must be slipping..... I've never been banned from the FB. Now, on the other hand I have upset some liberal snowflakes and they have blocked and banned me from their page..... and I have had enough of their diatribes that I had to block them for my own sanity..... but no sir, I've never been suspended from that place. I'll have to try harder I reckon.

What's sad is that there no longer is a possibility for communication - and I don't see how we'll get out of this situation. One one side, you have PC people who are offended by just about anything. On the other, you have people who systematically dismiss anyone who shows concern or stands up for others as sore pussies. Then there's the people in the middle who are systematically shoved either way. So basically, every one is just labeling and dismissing every one that doesn't agree with them just to make a point. I'm guessing that this is what we get after years of reality TV and News which consist of 75% opinions/rants. Every one has his soap box and it's all about making show and making a point. People aren't talking to each other, they're addressing stereotypes. Me, I'm dreaming of a world where people admit that they're not expert at everything and don't feel as though they must have an opinion about everything, instantly.

I've noticed that a lot of people have given up the pretense of objective reasoning and have taken to reaching into a grab bag of slogans instead of formulating real arguments. I see this in real life as well as online. Political discussions are getting more and more frustrating if you're the kind of person who enjoys a constructive debate because no matter how much thought you put into an argument, your opponent's eyes will glaze over until it's their turn to speak at which point they'll say something along the lines of "yes granted, but what you're forgetting is...." followed by a bunch of parrot-learned talking points which have absolutely no relevance to what you've just said. And then you have young people who, on top of this, have been brainwashed into the politics of victimhood. I see this in the comments of trendy sites like Buzzfeed, in which people who don't belong to some politically protected victim group are instantly shouted down and mocked because they're "not authentic enough." It's painfully fashionable to say that you're oppressed, marginalized and alienated even when you're none of those things (and are living one of the most safe, privileged lifestyles in human history). Any attempt to point this out is inmmediately attacked with a shrill cacophony of indignation and how dare you's. I sometimes wonder if these kids ever stop to think that people in blighted 3rd world countries who lead genuinely oppressed lives of subsistence and terror have occasional access to the internet and might see their comments. What must one think, living a life of oppression and poverty, to see some fashionably adorned rich American kid decked out with all the latest gadgets and slurping on $7 lattes, whining that their life is a living hell because they have the occasional derogatory comment directed at them from time to time.

I saw an analysis of David Cameron's TV interviews a while back, which showed the 3 steps he always used to steer the conversation away from what he'd just been asked, and back to what he wanted to talk about. My main peeve with Facebook is the overwhelming sad-sackery of people; crying at everything, banging on about their feelings, sharing memories of their dead pets, wearing 'depression' like some kind of fashion accessory, and worst of all, endlessly posting those dreadful 'inspirational' memes . My nephew is the worst for that, his entire status page is made up of rubbish like ''Anyone who encourages intellectual, emotional and spiritual growth is worth keeping, don't let them go''. WTF does that even mean? I have a friend who suffers terribly from real clinical depression, and it's way, way more than just 'feeling a bit sad'...
