herzanalog, I apologize for my rather short blunt, non helpful advice, and it is laughable... we 'mericans do not speak enlish so well

But when I read "silent" curse words as in "they are hidebound in ****ing smarttool
    I hate SmartTool.! "

it' brings out the "smart ass" in me, and I make jokes.

    To get back OT.

What seem to be your troubles with the smart tool and someone might be able to help you out with making your transition to using the smart tool a little less painful.

Herzanalog, SmartTool becomes powerful if your mouse has a "center" button.  That makes it easy to switch modes.

Back to the original comment.... When I first started with X1, I too did not like the so-called smart tool. After getting used to it, I've grown to like it. Though I use it mainly with audio and not much with MIDI at this point. I suppose I could change my mind as I do more MIDI work.

Too bad that if you don't chose to use it, you don't have near the capabilities that 8.5.3 had without smarttool... I wish they had simply left the system as it was (in respect to the tool sets) and added smart tool without losing the prior abilities without smarttool... <sigh>...

They're all hacks apart from Henry Green...

But seriously- Huxely, orwell, Burgess, Rushdie, Christie, Fleming, Dahl, Pratchett, Rowling, Amis aren't in the top flight. Stevenson has been dead fror about 120 years alsio.

Edit: I like the smart tool now that I am used to it. Brandon Ryan has stated that he hopes future editions are smarter still so we can expect it to be improved upon.

I like the Smart A55 tool... I'm sorry you aren't English or American. It seems to be a sore spot with you, though you do repress it well.

Sorry, these things bring out the stick poker in me.

Ok, maybe not that On Topic:)
For contemporary English writer try China Tom Miéville on for size. I have been reading Fantasy and Science fiction(amongst many, many other genres) and found his "Embassytown" so completely original that I was floored. That happens about once every 10 years or so to me now days.
The English can still churn them out it seems.
