I hate form-fitted plastic shell wrappings
Gads! I can't stand how the industry has made these 'almost' unopenable plastic form-fit shell wappings. I almost hate to buy something packaged this way because I know I am going to get peaved trying to open it, and maybe lose a finger in the process. I just bought an electric razor today and was fearful of slicing my fingers. And how about if you want to return the darn thing! Grrrrrrr! I know there are alternatives because I have purchased items where there are two shell halves that kind of button into each other. You just pop apart the two shells. Also makes it real nice to re-package should you want to return it.

No one have ever stolen, from me, a product that was packaged that way, Beag. It appears to work as designed.

My wife bought one of these a while back. It's great. I especially like the way the cutting blades are offset from the handle so you hand doesn't run into the package like with regular scissors. http://www.enjoyzibra.com/Home/PM/home.html

Its a big plot so we all have to now buy these special scissors. (They do look pretty nice though. Might have to buy one.)

And there's the issue of returning something that you mangled the packaging. Some business are okay with the returns, others are not. Annette

I use a very sharp knife.... and you have to be careful because the plastic will slice you open too.... I like the snap together packages too.... easier to get into without special cutting tools. You also must be careful when opening the blisterpacks not to cut into and or damage your shiney new whatchamecallit.

These were designed so Walmart could employ fewer people, and pay them less. These clamshell packages pretty much eliminate internal shrinkage - stealing by employees from the warehouse - and external shrinkage - stealing by customers from the floor. The clamshells can't easily be opened on the floor or at home or in the back warehouse, and the packaging is too big to slip past security. We have made our choice in this country to pay each other less, and to employ fewer people, and to provide fewer benefits, to increase profit to the C-Level execs, board members, and shareholders. This is not political - this is economic. Our choice to buy clamshell wrapped chinese-made crap is this. Put up with the clamshells, or don't shop at places that use them.

I guess I never thought about the theft-deterrent part. I thought they were doing it just to piss me off. But as serious was saying, as long as we keep buying china-made products, they will keep making them.

They are part of the theft deterrent plan... there is a RFID tag on the outside for the dummies..... but there is another one hidden inside the clam shell...... that will trip the theft sensors at the doors...

I also hate form-fitted plastic shell wrappings; they are most uncomfortable to wear.
